Penfolds St Henri Shiraz 2020 is a signature wine that embodies the timeless elegance and craftsmanship that Penfolds is known for. This iconic Australian Shiraz is an expression of purity and balance, with no reliance on new oak, allowing the fruit to shine through. The 2020 vintage, sourced from McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley, and Clare Valley, delivers a remarkable fruit profile with depth and complexity. The nose offers a delightful medley of berry conserve, strawberry flan, and a hint of confectionary sweetness, which seamlessly transitions to savoury notes of spiced sausage, salt-cured beef, and black peppercorns. On the palate, the wine is savoury, with layers of Japanese nori paper, olive brine, fresh blueberry, mulberry leaf, and exotic spices. Tannins reminiscent of Dutch cocoa round out the experience, adding a structured yet smooth finish. A true classic St Henri, this wine will reward those patient enough to age it, offering even greater complexity over the years.

Penfolds St Henri Shiraz 2020 pairs beautifully with a wide range of rich, savoury dishes. It complements roasted meats, such as lamb or beef, and is particularly well-suited to game dishes like venison or duck. The wine’s savoury complexity also makes it a perfect match for dishes with earthy flavours, like mushroom risotto or grilled vegetables. For a truly indulgent pairing, try it with a charcuterie board featuring aged cheeses and prosciutto.

    Penfolds

Penfolds has been a pioneer in the world of winemaking since its establishment in 1844 by Dr. Christopher and Mary Penfold. The company's success has been driven by a lineage of visionary winemakers who have pushed the development of the company to extraordinary, bold new heights. Mary Penfold's reign at the helm of Penfolds saw years of determination and endeavour, experimenting with new methods in wine production. In 1948, Max Schubert became the company's first Chief Winemaker and he propelled Penfolds onto the global stage with his experimentation of long-lasting wines - the creation of Penfolds Grange in the 1950s. Soon, the medals began flowing, and Grange quickly became one of the most revered wines around the world. In 2012, Penfolds released its most innovative project to date - 12 handcrafted ampoules of the rare 2004 Kalimna Block Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, Penfolds continues to hold dear the philosophies and legends that have driven the company's success since its establishment in 1844.

    Tasting notes

    NOSE
    Bright Fruit & Savoury Complexity

The nose is a complex interplay of bright, ripe fruits like berry conserve and strawberry flan, accompanied by savoury, spicy notes of sausage, salt-cured beef, and black peppercorns. This enticing aroma profile sets the stage for the layers of complexity to unfold.

    PALATE
    Savoury Elegance with Rich Layers

The wine delivers a savoury, textured experience, with flavours of Japanese nori paper, olive brine, fresh blueberry, and mulberry leaf. The wine’s exotic spice characters add further depth, while tannins resembling Dutch cocoa provide a smooth, well-structured finish. The balance between fruit and savoury elements makes this a wine of great complexity and elegance.

    FINISH
    Long, Structured & Elegant

The finish is long, with lingering flavours that continue to evolve in the glass. The wine’s fine tannins and acidity provide the structure for further aging, making this a wine that will develop beautifully over the years.
