Traditionally associated with the initials RM, or Récoltant-Manipulant, on the label, these producers offer a different model to Champagne's larger houses, many of which supplement their own vineyard holdings with fruit purchased from growers throughout the region.
The distinction is about production rather than quality or winemaking philosophy. Not every grower works organically, produces low-dosage Champagne or focuses on individual vineyards. What Is RM Champagne?
RM stands for Récoltant-Manipulant, identifying a grower who makes and markets Champagne principally from grapes grown in their own vineyards.
You'll often find these initials in small print on a Champagne label alongside other producer information.
RM is one of several producer classifications used in Champagne. NM, or Négociant-Manipulant, identifies producers permitted to purchase grapes, must or wine for Champagne production and includes many of the region's major houses.
Neither designation is inherently an indication of quality. Instead, it tells you something about how the producer operates and where the fruit comes from.

Because growers typically work with smaller vineyard holdings, their wines can offer a more focused look at particular parts of Champagne.
Some work predominantly within a single village, while others bottle individual parcels or lieux-dits.
