Reposado, meaning rested, bridges the freshness of Blanco with the deeper oak influence of Añejo.
Reposado Tequila is matured in oak for at least two months but less than one year, allowing the spirit to develop additional texture, colour and spice without losing the underlying character of the agave.
The result can range from lightly rested and agave-led to richer styles showing vanilla, caramel, baking spice and toasted oak.
Reposado typically combines cooked agave, citrus and pepper with flavours derived from oak maturation.
Depending on cask type and ageing period, the spirit may show vanilla, caramel, cinnamon, cocoa or toasted wood while still retaining the freshness expected of tequila.
The collection includes Fortaleza Reposado, Tequila Ocho Reposado, Don Fulano Reposado, Mijenta Reposado, Clase Azul Reposado, Herradura Reposado, Don Julio Reposado and La Gritona.
Producers such as Fortaleza, Tequila Ocho and Don Fulano offer styles where agave remains central despite the influence of oak.
At the more polished and presentation-led end of the category, Clase Azul Reposado has become one of the most recognisable premium tequila releases, while producers such as Cincoro, Pādre Azul and Casamigos provide further contemporary interpretations.
Reposado is particularly versatile.
It can be served neat or over a large cube, while its combination of agave freshness and oak character also works particularly well in cocktails.
A Reposado Margarita offers a richer, rounder alternative to one made with Blanco, while Reposado can also work in stirred drinks traditionally built around whiskey.
For an agave-led expression with restrained oak, look towards Fortaleza, Tequila Ocho, Don Fulano or Mijenta.
For a richer and more polished style, producers such as Clase Azul, Cincoro and Pādre Azul offer greater emphasis on texture, maturation and presentation.
Explore Reposado Tequila from Fortaleza, Clase Azul, Tequila Ocho, Don Fulano, Mijenta, Don Julio, Herradura and more.
