Purity, restraint and cool-climate finesse define the Pooley Elizabeth Anne Chardonnay 2024, a refined Tasmanian Chardonnay named in honour of the family matriarch who helped shape the Pooley legacy. Sourced from estate vineyards in Tasmania’s Coal River Valley, the wine reflects the region’s long growing season, cool nights and exceptional ability to produce Chardonnay with tension, precision and mineral drive. The 2024 vintage delivered excellent fruit clarity and balance, allowing the wine to achieve layered flavour development while preserving vibrant natural acidity. Crafted with a minimal-intervention philosophy, the wine highlights both varietal purity and site expression with remarkable detail.
In the glass the wine is bright and composed, revealing aromas of white peach, lemon zest and grapefruit layered with flint, subtle oak spice and delicate floral notes. The palate is finely textured and mineral-driven, balancing citrus and stone fruit with saline freshness and restrained creaminess. Careful barrel fermentation and maturation in French oak contribute depth and structure without overwhelming the wine’s natural precision. The Coal River Valley’s cool climate gives the wine freshness and line, carrying through to a focused and persistent finish. The 2024 release combines elegance with quiet concentration, showing both immediate charm and excellent ageing potential. This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with fresh seafood, roast chicken, lobster or creamy mushroom dishes.

Pooley Wines, established in 1985 by Denis and Margaret Pooley, is a family-owned vineyard that has grown to become one of Australia’s most acclaimed cool-climate wine producers. Situated in Tasmania’s Coal River Valley, the winery has flourished under the stewardship of three generations, with John Pooley expanding the estate by adding the Butcher’s Hill Vineyard in 2003. Today, John’s daughter Anna Pooley, an award-winning winemaker, leads the production with an eye toward tradition and innovation. Her meticulous approach to winemaking honours the family’s legacy while elevating Pooley Wines to new heights of excellence. Recognised as the 2023 Winery of the Year by Halliday Wine Companion, Pooley’s commitment to quality and family values is evident in every bottle.
At Pooley Wines, the philosophy is simple yet profound: to produce wines that are a true reflection of the land, climate, and vintage. The team’s commitment to sustainable viticulture and minimal intervention winemaking ensures that the purity and character of the fruit shine through in every wine. The winery prides itself on its ability to craft wines that are elegant, complex, and true to their terroir, while also pushing the boundaries of innovation to create wines that stand the test of time. By embracing the natural rhythm of the vineyard and working with the unique challenges each vintage presents, Pooley Wines crafts wines that are both distinctive and timeless.
