Product Description:
Torbreck The Factor Shiraz 2018 1.5L is a commanding Barossa Valley Shiraz that pays tribute to the great old-vine vineyards and growers of the region. Named after the manager of a Highland estate, The Factor reflects Torbreck’s Celtic naming tradition and its deep respect for vineyard custodianship. The 2018 vintage is produced from 100% Shiraz, with fruit sourced from Gomersal, Krondorf, Marananga and Ebenezer. Many of the old Barossa vineyards that inspire this wine were planted in the 19th century and remain on their own roots due to South Australia’s protection from phylloxera. This gives The Factor a strong sense of heritage, concentration and regional identity. The wine was matured for 24 months in a combination of new, second-fill and seasoned French oak barriques, with 40% new oak used in the maturation.
The 2018 season produced wines remembered for impressive colour, structure and longevity. In the glass, The Factor is deep purple and almost black, immediately suggesting intensity and density. Aromas of satsuma plum, blackberry, boysenberry, dark chocolate, roasted espresso and liquorice create a brooding and richly layered expression. The palate is plush, soft and textural, with a deep core of dark fruit supported by concentrated tannins and long acidity. Subtle savoury notes of olive tapenade, saddle leather, minerals and saltbush add complexity beyond the fruit. This magnum format is especially well suited to careful cellaring, allowing the wine to evolve slowly over time. Built for long-term development, it can be enjoyed with slow-cooked lamb, chargrilled beef, game, rich braises and aged hard cheeses.

Reviews & Accolades
“A pristine nose of ripe and intense blackberries, blueberries and redcurrants, as well as some sanguine, rust-like notes. This is an excellent edition of The Factor. I like the power and focus this wine delivers and, in 2018, it is a wine of great length and presence. Abundant ripe blackberries bathe the palate.” — Nick Stock, JamesSuckling.com, 98 Points
