The 2022 Torbreck Descendant Shiraz is a powerful yet refined wine born from one of the Barossa Valley’s most respected single-vineyard sites. Located on Roennfeldt Road next to the Torbreck winery, this vineyard was planted in 1994 with cuttings taken from the famed RunRig vineyards. These cuttings represent some of the oldest genetic vine material in Australia, lending a distinct lineage and exceptional quality to this wine. The 2022 vintage, with its cool growing conditions and slower ripening process, allowed for the development of wines with higher acidity, rich colour, and fine tannins—characteristics that will allow this wine to evolve beautifully with age.
Crafted through co-fermentation of Shiraz and Viognier, this wine continues the legacy of the original RunRig blend and features subtle yet intricate layers of fruit, spice, and texture. With 20 months of maturation in second-use French oak barriques previously used for RunRig, this wine delivers the signature depth and structure of Torbreck, balanced by a velvety, creamy texture that will reward both immediate enjoyment and long-term cellaring.
Best enjoyed from 2025 to 2044.
Pairs perfectly with forest game, lamb, truffles, or mushroom dishes.

Torbreck was founded with the mission to become one of the world’s great wine brands, and since 1994, it has remained steadfast in its commitment to creating exceptional Rhône-style wines. The winery is located in the heart of Australia's famous Barossa Valley, which is renowned for its rich winemaking heritage and exceptional terroir. Torbreck works closely with multi-generational growers, whose families have been in the region for nearly two centuries. These growers are central to Torbreck’s winemaking philosophy, which focuses on working in partnership with the land to create wines that reflect the unique characteristics of the Barossa.
Torbreck’s commitment to minimal intervention winemaking ensures that the expression of each vineyard’s terroir is preserved, resulting in wines that are rich, structured, and capable of ageing gracefully. The winery’s dedication to quality is reflected in their choice of high-quality oak for maturation, as well as their careful fermentation techniques that allow the flavours to develop naturally. Torbreck’s wines, are a true reflection of the Barossa Valley’s potential to produce world-class, age-worthy wines.
The 2022 vintage was characterised by above average winter rains making up for a dry autumn, leading to full canopies and healthy vines for the harvest. A severe hail storm across some parts of the Valley in late October resulted in lower average yields. The summer was remarkably mild with very few days above 30 degrees. Slow ripening in the cooler conditions made for a gentle and drawn out vintage season, resulting in wines with higher natural acidity, rich colours and fine tannins. The wines from 2022 will reward those patient enough to cellar them away.
Intertwined with notes of dried apricots, potpourri, cloves, and star anise. A distinct touch of white pepper adds a subtle spice, a result of the cooler growing conditions in 2022.
Vibrant and full-bodied, with layers of dark Barossa fruits supported by the richness of second-use French oak. Smooth tannins and a creamy, viscous texture showcase the vineyard’s pedigree, while the balance between fruit, spice, and acidity creates a harmonious and long finish.
A seamless, creamy mouthfeel extends into a long finish, with mild tannins and a bright, cleansing acidity that leaves the palate refreshed and ready for the next sip. This wine has the structure to age gracefully, developing even more complexity over time.
