An Australian expression of Nebbiolo with precision and quiet poise. From the elevated slopes above Eden Valley, Henschke’s The Rose Grower 2022 reveals how this noble Piedmontese grape adapts to South Australian light and soil. Named in honour of the Roesler family, who once tended this property as a dairy, it now produces fruit defined by clarity, fragrance, and fine structure. The vines sit on rocky, fog-affected terrain overlooking the North Para River, capturing cool morning mists and long, measured ripening.
Fermented on skins for five months and matured for eleven months in seasoned French oak, this wine shows the Henschke family’s meticulous approach to texture and balance. The result is a pure, restrained Nebbiolo that combines lifted aromatics with firm yet graceful tannins, reflecting both its Italian heritage and its Australian provenance. A wine of depth and focus, built for those who appreciate precision and longevity.

Rose petal, rosehip, pressed flowers rise from the glass with cherry, cherry stone and a mineral flintiness… flavours combine rose-based floral aromatics with the red fruits on the palate, plus an additional splash of white pepper, anise and spice. Intense, bright and nicely textural with the grape’s tell-tale tannin presence noted but not obstructive.
Henschke is one of Australia's most prestigious and historic wineries, with over 153 years and six generations of family ownership. Located in Keyneton, South Australia, within the renowned Eden Valley wine region, Henschke has built a legacy of crafting premium wines, including its iconic single-vineyard wines, Hill of Grace and Mount Edelstone. Since 1862, the Henschke family has cultivated exceptional vineyards in the Eden Valley, Barossa Valley, and Adelaide Hills, with a focus on quality, sustainability, and innovation.
Stephen and Prue Henschke, the fifth-generation winemaker and viticulturist team, have led the winery since 1979, restoring native vegetation and adopting organic and biodynamic vineyard practices. The sixth generation, led by Johann Henschke, continues to honour the traditions of the past while embracing modern winemaking techniques to ensure Henschke remains a leader in fine wine production.
Henschke's commitment to sustainability and excellence has garnered numerous accolades, including the Wine Enthusiast's New World Winery of the Year (2021) and the Halliday Wine Companion's Winery of the Year. The winery has also been recognised with the Robert Parker Wine Advocate Green Emblem, highlighting its dedication to environmentally conscious practices.
Henschke’s winemaking philosophy is founded on the belief that the best wines are made in the vineyard. By embracing organic and biodynamic farming practices, the family ensures that their vineyards are cared for with a long-term view, prioritising the health of both the vines and the land. This respect for nature allows the true expression of the fruit to shine through, producing wines that are authentic, balanced, and reflective of their unique environments. Henschke’s approach to farming is not just about sustainability - it’s about building a legacy of responsibility for future generations.
This commitment to working with nature rather than against it is evident in every bottle of Henschke wine. The family’s attention to detail, combined with their unwavering focus on quality, has resulted in a portfolio of wines that are globally recognised for their excellence. Henschke’s wines are crafted with the intention of showcasing the distinct characteristics of their vineyards, with each vintage offering a true expression of place. By integrating sustainability into every aspect of their winemaking process, Henschke ensures that their wines will continue to be enjoyed for generations to come, leaving a lasting impact on the world of fine wine.
