Japan’s pioneering distillery, bottled in a story of oak, time and legacy. The Yamazaki ‘Story of the Distillery’ 2025 Edition is a tribute to the roots of Japanese whisky, drawing on the unique character of Yamazaki malt and the visionary legacy of founder Shinjiro Torii. Crafted at Japan’s first and most revered malt whisky distillery, this single malt is a masterclass in blending tradition with refinement.

A marriage of malt whiskies aged in Mizunara and Spanish oak casks, the 2025 edition builds on the richness of its predecessor while pushing deeper into layers of spice, fruit and gentle smoke. Bottled at 43%, this is no overreach—it’s poised, nuanced and structured for sipping, not shouting. The label artwork features the distillery’s historic drying tower, anchoring the bottle in both story and place.

Expect a compelling narrative in the glass—soft sweetness up front, followed by complex waves of spice, dried fruit and cocoa. This is Yamazaki speaking in full voice: deep, balanced and unmistakably Japanese. A collectible release that resonates with the past, but drinks with presence.

      Yamazaki

Yamazaki occupies a singular place in Japanese whisky. Established by Suntory founder Shinjiro Torii in 1923, Yamazaki Distillery was Japan’s first malt whisky distillery and became the starting point for what would develop into one of the world's most distinctive whisky traditions.

Torii chose Yamazaki, on the outskirts of Kyoto, for its renowned water and distinctive natural environment. His ambition was not simply to reproduce Scotch whisky in Japan, but to create a style shaped by Japanese ingredients, climate, craftsmanship and sensibility. The first Suntory whisky followed in 1929, beginning a century of experimentation and refinement.

Today, Yamazaki is the flagship single malt of the House of Suntory. Its character is defined by complexity rather than a single flavour profile, bringing together an unusually broad range of malt spirits and maturation styles. Fruit, spice, oak and incense-like notes associated with Japanese Mizunara oak have become signatures of the house, particularly across its aged expressions.

Under successive generations of blenders, Yamazaki has remained grounded in Torii's original pursuit: a distinctly Japanese whisky of depth, balance and remarkable detail.
