An exceptional release for a wine that is, as always, wonderful value and an archetypical Serralunga Barolo. Aromatically there's an abundance of red fruits trailed by dried flowers, iron and resinous notes. The palate is supple, has suave cherry fruit and is superfine, with its long, chewy tannins. Not as powerful as those from the drier 2019 season, but the balance and elegance are unmistakable. In spite of its immediate appeal, Franco Massolino and Giovanni Angeli believe that 2020 will age in line with their best years. So, you really get the best of both worlds: a terrific year for aging and a Barolo to decant now. Surely, a good reason to grab two or more.

This cuvée spent around 20 days on skins, and the final blend matured for 30 months in large Slavonian oak casks.

Renowned wine critic Antonio Galloni of Vinous has praises Massolino's 2020 range, “Grace, elegance and understatement are some of the qualities readers will find in the 2020 Barolos. The best wines are undeniably striking … Overall, 2020 is a vintage of mid-weight Barolos. These are wines to admire for their balance and seductive appeal more than their power or structure.” A promising year from one of Piemonte's crown jewels.

    Trusted by the professionals

Bright and lively red fruit character with dried flowers, stones and hints of tree resin. Medium-bodied, clean and focused on the palate, with fine tannins and a linear finish. Shows freshness and poise. Polished. Try from 2027, but already a joy to taste.

Lustrous mid ruby. Richness of fruit on the nose with a hint of gingerbread. With aeration opens up to savoury cherry, if still a little subdued. Supple, suave cherry fruit with superfine, long, chewy tannins. A pretty wine.

    — Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com, 17+ Points

Opening with aromas of crushed red fruits and a bouquet of bay leaf, balsam, and sandalwood that slowly lift from the glass. The palate is rounded and pretty—soft tannins make it immediately accessible. A savoury backbone is brightened by hints of orange zest and clove, creating an approachable yet complex profile that is ready to be enjoyed now.

    Massolino

Massolino is one of the most revered names in Piemonte, known for producing exceptional Barolo and Nebbiolo wines that express the unique character of the region’s vineyards. Founded in 1896 by Giovanni Massolino, the estate’s legacy has been built on a rich history of innovation and dedication to quality. Giovanni, a visionary who brought electricity to the town of Serralunga d'Alba, laid the foundation for what would become a celebrated estate in one of Italy's most prestigious wine regions.

The estate is now under the guidance of Franco and Roberto Massolino, with the winemaking led by Franco’s son, Sebastien. Sebastien has played a key role in driving the estate forward since he took over the operations in 2006, introducing organic farming practices and refining the winemaking process to showcase the pure expression of their terroirs. Massolino’s commitment to quality is evident in every bottle, from their prestigious Barolo to their Nebbiolo-based wines, which offer unparalleled balance, elegance, and depth. Today, Massolino continues to be a family-owned winery, with Sebastien and his team working tirelessly to uphold the tradition of excellence and precision that has defined Massolino for over a century.
