Catalina Sounds Pinot Noir 2024 is a vibrant Marlborough expression that reflects the purity and freshness of New Zealand’s cool-climate winemaking. Sourced from estate vineyards in the Waihopai Valley, the wine benefits from free-draining soils, warm days, and cool nights that allow for slow ripening and excellent flavour retention. Catalina Sounds focuses on crafting wines that highlight varietal clarity and regional character, producing Pinot Noir that balances bright fruit with subtle savoury complexity.

The 2024 vintage shows excellent concentration and aromatic lift, shaped by a favourable growing season. Careful vineyard management and gentle extraction in the winery preserve the wine’s delicate structure and fruit purity. Maturation in oak adds texture and depth without dominating the profile. The result is a finely balanced Pinot Noir that combines vibrancy with elegance, offering immediate appeal while retaining structure for short- to mid-term cellaring.

“Great colour, concentration and bouquet of dark cherry and plum with a frame of dried herbs a baking spics of clove and vanilla. There’s a wood smoke and soil-soil quality layering in complexity and lots of charm. Fleshy, fruity, salivating and dry on the palate. Flavours of dark plums and raspberry are the focus with firm polished tannins and strong acid line for length and freshness. Well made with best drinking from 2026 through 2032+.”

      Catalina Sounds

Catalina Sounds was founded in 2005 with the aim of producing wines that reflect Marlborough’s distinct landscape while carrying an extra layer of textural depth. The name honours the Catalina flying boats once seen across the Marlborough Sounds, an enduring symbol of connection to the region’s history.

From its base in the Waihopai Valley, the estate works across carefully selected vineyard sites to craft a focused portfolio. While Sauvignon Blanc remains central to the story, Catalina Sounds has steadily expanded into Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, alongside the Sound of White single-vineyard range and sister label Crowded House. Each wine is shaped by the same attention to detail, authenticity and sense of place.
