The Yeringberg Shiraz 2022 is a wine that speaks of elegance, finesse, and a quiet confidence—a perfect example of how Sandra de Pury has shaped this varietal at Yeringberg. Unlike many Shiraz expressions, this wine embraces a perfumed, finely structured, and poised character. A blend of three distinct clones—PT23, 1654, and a ‘100-year-old’ selection—each contributing its own unique complexity, the 2022 vintage benefits from low yields, which produced intensely flavoured fruit.

Handpicked and fermented with 15 days on skins, this wine showcases the subtle interplay of rich fruit with aromatic enhancements from a small addition of frozen Marsanne skins. The result is a wine with aromatic layers of blueberry, dark cherry, violet, white pepper, and a touch of Moroccan spice, complemented by a palate that is both supple and structured. The wine matures for 20 months in French oak (30% new), polishing the wine to reveal a complex savoury depth with a slight ferrous quality beneath the plush fruit. The finish is lingering, with fine, powdery tannins and a vibrancy that’s unmistakably Yeringberg. A wine that rewards patience, the 2022 Shiraz embodies Sandra’s touch, creating a wine that confidently showcases the best of Yeringberg—elegant, layered, and thoughtfully crafted.

    Trusted by the professionals

A medium crimson purple. A gentle wine in ‘22, you’ll find aromas of red and blue fruits together with loads of white pepper, spice, and fresh flowers. There’s a little meatiness too, which follows onto the medium-bodied, elegant yet persistent palate. A touch closed at present; this will open up and become more perfumed and silkier over the next three to five years and beyond.

    Yeringberg

Yeringberg’s journey began with Guill de Pury, who grew up alongside the estate’s 19th-century winery in Coldstream, which had ceased production in 1921 due to a lack of interest in fine wines. In 1969, Guill and his wife Katherine decided to replant the vineyard, gradually restoring the estate to its former glory. Their first commercial wine was made in 1974, marking the rebirth of Yeringberg as a leading producer in the Yarra Valley.

Since 2008, the next generation has continued this legacy, with Sandra de Pury taking on the role of winemaker. Sandra’s background is unique—after working as a chef in Hong Kong, studying hotel management in Switzerland, earning an MBA, and working as a management consultant, Sandra returned to her family’s roots in winemaking. Completing a degree in oenology, she became the fourth-generation winemaker at Yeringberg. Sandra’s approach to winemaking is both intellectual and sensory, a perfect blend of technical skill and creative expression.

Yeringberg continues to evolve with the times, with plans for a new winery and a vine replanting program to address climate change and phylloxera. These efforts ensure that Yeringberg will remain one of the Yarra Valley’s most important and forward-thinking producers.

    Tasting notes

    NOSE
    Intense Aromatics & Spice

Vibrant aromas of blueberry, dark cherry, and violet, lifted by a touch of white pepper, Moroccan spice, and a hint of juniper berry. The fragrant complexity invites exploration, revealing depth and intrigue.

    PALATE
    Lively, Elegant & Structured

A perfect balance of plush fruit and structured savouriness. Creamy blueberry and dark cherry mingle with notes of white pepper, lightly toasted coconut, and a savoury, almost ferrous quality that adds sophistication to the wine’s natural fruit character. The texture is silky, with fine tannins and a seamless, elegant flow.

    FINISH
    Lingering & Powerful Tannins

The finish is medium in length, with soft, powdery tannins that linger gently, leaving a lasting impression of sweet oak and vibrant fruit, inviting another sip.
