The 2023 Yeringberg Pinot Noir is a graceful and refined expression of this noble red varietal, harnessing the cool-climate advantages of the Yarra Valley to produce a wine of aromatic purity, energy and depth. Sourced from carefully selected estate-grown parcels, this Pinot Noir reflects meticulous viticulture, with hand-harvesting and gentle handling ensuring pristine fruit quality.

The wine is crafted using wild ferments and a combination of whole berries and gentle extraction, resulting in a finely tuned structure and silken texture. In the glass, it reveals an inviting crimson hue and aromas that effortlessly balance elegance with complexity, think wild strawberries, red cherry, pomegranate and delicate floral perfume, intertwined with subtle forest floor, spice and a whisper of clove. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied yet intensely expressive, with juicy red fruit framed by vibrant acidity and fine grain tannins that contribute to both shape and length. There is a refined savoury edge that adds intrigue and depth, weaving through red berry layers toward a finish that is both persistent and harmonious.

The 2023 vintage typifies Yeringberg’s stylistic commitment to balance and finesse, offering a Pinot Noir that is approachable in youth yet structured for thoughtful cellaring. This wine bridges Old World sensibility with New World vibrancy and makes a compelling companion to a range of lighter meat dishes or more elegant evening fare.

      Yeringberg

Yeringberg’s journey began with Guill de Pury, who grew up alongside the estate’s 19th-century winery in Coldstream, which had ceased production in 1921 due to a lack of interest in fine wines. In 1969, Guill and his wife Katherine decided to replant the vineyard, gradually restoring the estate to its former glory. Their first commercial wine was made in 1974, marking the rebirth of Yeringberg as a leading producer in the Yarra Valley.

Since 2008, the next generation has continued this legacy, with Sandra de Pury taking on the role of winemaker. Sandra’s background is unique—after working as a chef in Hong Kong, studying hotel management in Switzerland, earning an MBA, and working as a management consultant, Sandra returned to her family’s roots in winemaking. Completing a degree in oenology, she became the fourth-generation winemaker at Yeringberg. Sandra’s approach to winemaking is both intellectual and sensory, a perfect blend of technical skill and creative expression.

Yeringberg continues to evolve with the times, with plans for a new winery and a vine replanting program to address climate change and phylloxera. These efforts ensure that Yeringberg will remain one of the Yarra Valley’s most important and forward-thinking producers.
