The Yeringberg Marsanne Roussanne 2022 is a masterful blend of two of the Rhône Valley’s most beloved white varieties. Sourced from vines planted in 1973 (Marsanne) and 1983 (Roussanne), this wine is a testament to the estate’s commitment to quality and tradition. Co-fermented in stainless steel and aged in old French oak for 8–9 months, the wine showcases a purity of fruit that’s enhanced by its minimal intervention approach. The nose is a beautiful mix of floral and savoury aromas—honeysuckle, jasmine, and orange blossom, with hints of pear skin, quince, and sandalwood. The palate is fresh, finely textured, and powerfully structured, offering a seamless balance between fruit richness and mineral streak. A wine that’s full of life now but has the potential to evolve and deepen with time, this Marsanne Roussanne is ideal for pairing with textured dishes like roasted poultry or buttery seafood.

    Trusted by the professionals

A bright green gold. Aromas of ripe pears and apricots sit alongside some lemon conserve, pink grapefruit, and orange blossom scents. It’s a compelling mix that flows through onto the palate, which is gently textured, saline, and very well structured. I really like the touch of grip on the finish too, and as good as this is now, this will age gracefully over the next five to seven years at least.

A complex golden wine that’s nutty and saline, and often puts me in mind of Cornflakes, though maybe that’s just me. I’m quite fond of them too, especially with some good honey on top. There’s pear and apple, fresh apricot, some flowers and spice, maybe some aniseed, fine chalk dust texture with a pithy grip, kind of waxy, but balanced in acidity with some citrus tones, and a firm finish of excellent length. Nice.

    Yeringberg

Yeringberg’s journey began with Guill de Pury, who grew up alongside the estate’s 19th-century winery in Coldstream, which had ceased production in 1921 due to a lack of interest in fine wines. In 1969, Guill and his wife Katherine decided to replant the vineyard, gradually restoring the estate to its former glory. Their first commercial wine was made in 1974, marking the rebirth of Yeringberg as a leading producer in the Yarra Valley.

Since 2008, the next generation has continued this legacy, with Sandra de Pury taking on the role of winemaker. Sandra’s background is unique—after working as a chef in Hong Kong, studying hotel management in Switzerland, earning an MBA, and working as a management consultant, Sandra returned to her family’s roots in winemaking. Completing a degree in oenology, she became the fourth-generation winemaker at Yeringberg. Sandra’s approach to winemaking is both intellectual and sensory, a perfect blend of technical skill and creative expression.

Yeringberg continues to evolve with the times, with plans for a new winery and a vine replanting program to address climate change and phylloxera. These efforts ensure that Yeringberg will remain one of the Yarra Valley’s most important and forward-thinking producers.

    Tasting notes

    NOSE
    Floral & Savoury Complexity

A delicate bouquet of honeysuckle, jasmine, and orange blossom leads into savoury notes of pear skin, quince, and sandalwood. The balance of floral and savoury elements creates a captivating nose.

    PALATE
    Fresh, Textured & Powerful

Llively and full of texture, with a gentle weight that feels both broad and precise. A mineral streak and a subtle saline edge add complexity, while the structure suggests this wine will continue to evolve.

    FINISH
    Long & Structured

Long, with a refreshing, saline quality that adds to the wine’s complexity. A wine with remarkable balance and ageing potential.
