The 2023 Yeringberg Chardonnay is a refined and expressive example of cool-climate Australian Chardonnay, crafted from fruit grown across select estate vineyard sites in the Yarra Valley. This wine reflects meticulous vineyard management and careful, thoughtful winemaking that allows both site expression and varietal purity to take centre stage.

Whole-bunch pressing followed by predominantly wild fermentation contributes to a beautifully layered and textured profile, while judicious oak ageing adds nuance without overpowering the fruit. The bouquet reveals an elegant interplay of citrus blossom, lemon zest and white peach, with underlying notes of oyster shell, toasted almond and a hint of flint that signal minerality and complexity. On the palate, a lively, finely tuned acidity frames concentrated fruit, with lemon curd, crisp pear and subtle stone fruit interwoven alongside a creamy mid-palate texture. The wine’s structure is poised and balanced, offering both precision and a sense of weightless richness that carries through a long, mineral-infused finish.

There is a clarity of expression here that rewards attentive tasting, suggesting this Chardonnay will build further nuance with careful cellaring while being enticing in its youth. The 2023 vintage captures both the vibrancy of the Yarra Valley climate and the understated complexity that has become synonymous with Yeringberg’s style. It pairs superbly with seafood, creamy poultry dishes or simply elegant company.

      Yeringberg

Yeringberg’s journey began with Guill de Pury, who grew up alongside the estate’s 19th-century winery in Coldstream, which had ceased production in 1921 due to a lack of interest in fine wines. In 1969, Guill and his wife Katherine decided to replant the vineyard, gradually restoring the estate to its former glory. Their first commercial wine was made in 1974, marking the rebirth of Yeringberg as a leading producer in the Yarra Valley.

Since 2008, the next generation has continued this legacy, with Sandra de Pury taking on the role of winemaker. Sandra’s background is unique—after working as a chef in Hong Kong, studying hotel management in Switzerland, earning an MBA, and working as a management consultant, Sandra returned to her family’s roots in winemaking. Completing a degree in oenology, she became the fourth-generation winemaker at Yeringberg. Sandra’s approach to winemaking is both intellectual and sensory, a perfect blend of technical skill and creative expression.

Yeringberg continues to evolve with the times, with plans for a new winery and a vine replanting program to address climate change and phylloxera. These efforts ensure that Yeringberg will remain one of the Yarra Valley’s most important and forward-thinking producers.
