Product Description
The Yeringberg Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 is a powerful and elegant expression of Yarra Valley Cabernet—structured, refined, and built to last. Sourced from the estate's 1999 plantings, the grapes were hand-picked and fermented in small open-top tanks, spending 16 days on skins to extract maximum flavour. The wine was aged for 21 months in French oak (30% new), allowing it to develop a complex yet finely tuned profile. The aromatics are rich and inviting, with blackberry, black olive, and tobacco, layered with dark chocolate and an iron-like minerality. The palate is taut, serious, and initially reserved, but as it opens, layers of blackcurrant and plum emerge, interwoven with savoury, graphite-like tannins. A wine with impressive depth, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon is built for the long haul and will evolve gracefully over the next decade or more. A perfect companion for a rare steak or a decanter to allow it to truly shine.
Maker
Yeringberg’s journey began with Guill de Pury, who grew up alongside the estate’s 19th-century winery in Coldstream, which had ceased production in 1921 due to a lack of interest in fine wines. In 1969, Guill and his wife Katherine decided to replant the vineyard, gradually restoring the estate to its former glory. Their first commercial wine was made in 1974, marking the rebirth of Yeringberg as a leading producer in the Yarra Valley.
Since 2008, the next generation has continued this legacy, with Sandra de Pury taking on the role of winemaker. Sandra’s background is unique—after working as a chef in Hong Kong, studying hotel management in Switzerland, earning an MBA, and working as a management consultant, Sandra returned to her family’s roots in winemaking. Completing a degree in oenology, she became the fourth-generation winemaker at Yeringberg. Sandra’s approach to winemaking is both intellectual and sensory, a perfect blend of technical skill and creative expression.
Yeringberg continues to evolve with the times, with plans for a new winery and a vine replanting program to address climate change and phylloxera. These efforts ensure that Yeringberg will remain one of the Yarra Valley’s most important and forward-thinking producers.
Philosophy
Yeringberg’s philosophy revolves around producing wines that capture the true essence of the Yarra Valley, known for its fine terroir and distinctive varietal character. The de Pury family, as pioneers in the region, is renowned for creating wines that showcase finesse, elegance, and balance, with a particular focus on maintaining the integrity of the region’s oldest vines. Yeringberg’s wines are crafted in small quantities, ensuring the highest quality and expression of the valley’s natural richness.
The red wines from Yeringberg, especially in riper years, show a velvety richness that speaks to the generosity of the land, while still respecting the varietal character. These wines are crafted with great care and attention to detail, resulting in long-lived, complex wines that are true to the estate’s legacy. Every bottle from Yeringberg is a testament to the family’s commitment to excellence and their deep-rooted connection to the Yarra Valley’s exceptional terroir.

Reviews + Accolades:
“A deepish bright crimson purple. A touch more closed than the Yeringberg blend, but still with a lovely core of dark fruits, together with cedar, violets, and a hint of iodine on the perfumed and captivating bouquet. The medium-bodied and firmly structured palate is beautifully balanced, but with those firm, fine-grained tannins, this will require some patience to fulfil its potential.” – Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion) - 97 Points
“Intense small-berried black and red fruits, quite some violet perfume, pencils, and tobacco, perhaps a little aniseed. It’s medium-bodied, quite ferrous and pencilly, the old liquid ‘mineral’ feel that great Cabernet often sports, compact and fine-grained tannin grip, freshness, and excellent length. Some redcurrant peeking through in the aftertaste along with some more savoury/earthy character. Beautiful wine. So good.” – Gary Walsh (The Winefront) - 96 Points
