For chief winemaker John Kavanagh there is nothing more important than endeavouring to produce wines that display the characteristics of their vineyard source. To this end, the over 60 distinct Pinot Noir lots are individually harvested, vinified, and matured in barrels separately until final blending. In the winery the wines are individually punched down and gently pressed to ensure full extraction without sacrificing elegance. A balanced oak treatment is combined with minimal fining and filtering to help preserve both varietal purity and the distinct terroir characteristics.

Te Kairanga Runholder Pinot Noir is a nod to pioneering Martinborough ‘runholder’ and Martinborough namesake John Martin. The fruit is sourced from their home vineyards planted on his original land holdings. Beautiful deep crimson hues lead to an aromatic flurry of cherries, forest bramble and classic Martinborough savoury, earthy notes. The palate displays vibrant wild berry fruit flavours finishing with fine silky tannins. A perfect match for herb crusted lamb, Runholder Pinot Noir is very drinkable now but can be cellared for 5-8 years.
