Product Description:
Te Kairanga Estate Pinot Noir 2025 is a refined Martinborough expression produced from Pinot Noir grown across the estate’s Home, McLeod and Rua vineyards. The Home and McLeod Vineyards lie on the Martinborough Terrace, an ancient former riverbed distinguished by deep alluvial gravel soils. Additional fruit comes from the higher-elevation Rua Vineyard, where more extreme growing conditions contribute further freshness and character. The wine is composed of Abel and 777 Pinot Noir clones, with the Abel clone accounting for 33.5% of the blend. All contributing vineyards are sustainably farmed, reflecting Te Kairanga’s emphasis on preserving the individual character of its sites.
The 2025 season began early, with warm spring weather encouraging strong canopy growth, excellent flowering and generous crop levels. Cooler and wetter conditions from mid-December through late January slowed development, before generally favourable weather from veraison to harvest allowed most fruit to achieve full ripeness. The grapes were harvested block by block, destemmed and vinified separately, with regular punch-downs and gentle pressing used to achieve flavour and colour extraction without compromising elegance. The wine was matured for 11 months in French oak, of which 10% was new, before receiving minimal fining and filtration. Perfumed dark cherry and plum lead the aromatic profile, accompanied by earthy, savoury spice and impressive depth. The palate is soft, rich and polished, carrying bright red fruit into deeper berry flavours, subtle oak and finely textured spicy tannins. Its savoury complexity and balanced structure make it a particularly appealing partner for Asian-spiced lamb dishes or wood-fired Neapolitan pizza.
