Stonier Pinot Noir 2025 is a compelling expression of Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir from one of the region’s pioneering and most respected producers. Established in 1978, Stonier has played a significant role in shaping the reputation of the Mornington Peninsula as a world-class cool-climate wine region. The 2025 vintage draws fruit from selected Southern Peninsula grower vineyards, reflecting the diversity and complexity of the region’s maritime-influenced terroir. Under the guidance of winemaker Julian Grounds, the wine continues Stonier’s commitment to crafting Pinot Noir that balances elegance, purity and site expression. Careful vineyard management and thoughtful winemaking have resulted in a wine of remarkable depth and precision. The cool growing season preserved freshness and aromatic detail while allowing the fruit to achieve excellent flavour concentration.

The 2025 release is particularly notable for its combination of vibrancy and structure. Aromas of wild strawberry, dark cherry and forest floor emerge alongside floral nuances and subtle spice. The palate is layered and expressive, delivering generous fruit intensity while retaining the hallmark finesse of Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir. Fine-grained tannins and lively acidity provide shape and energy, while savoury undertones add complexity and intrigue. There is an appealing balance between immediate drinkability and cellar-worthy structure. The finish is long, detailed and harmonious, lingering with notes of red fruits, spice and earthy minerality. It is an excellent match for duck, roast poultry, mushroom dishes and charcuterie.

“A blend of our Southern Peninsula grower vineyards, this iteration speaks of the balance and enjoyment that great Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir can deliver. The typical varietal aromas of wild strawberry and foraged pine mushrooms are prevalent, but the palate is where the wine shines brightest.”

      — Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion, 95 Points

“This wine, perhaps more than any other in the range, proves that Stonier is in the best of winemaking and wine growing hands. Buy this, cellar it, drink it. I’ve loved this ‘standard’ Stonier Pinot Noir for decades but I dare say that this is the best release that I’ve tried. Sheesh. It’s complex, it’s cohesive, it’s balanced and it feels authentic, the latter both to its variety and to its region. Mostly and ultimately though it’s more-ish. It’s cherried and strawberried and plummy and sweet spiced, with soil or undergrowth notes interwoven. Tannin profile is top notch, and the balance between juicy drinkability and tension is so perfectly judged. Last year’s releases gave an excellent insight into the uptick of Stonier but this year’s releases take things up again.”

      — Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, 95 Points

      Stonier

Stonier Wines is one of the pioneering producers of the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, with vineyard roots dating back to 1978. The estate is especially recognised for its cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, two varieties that have become closely associated with the region’s reputation for elegance and finesse. Located in Merricks, Stonier works from some of the older vineyard sites in the area, allowing the wines to reflect both maturity of vine and regional character. Today, the winery continues under the guidance of winemaker Julian Grounds, with a renewed focus on precision, site expression, and the quality of fruit grown across the Mornington Peninsula. Stonier’s wines are crafted to highlight the natural freshness, structure, and complexity that come from the peninsula’s cool maritime climate. As a producer, Stonier has earned its place as a respected name in Australian wine by staying closely tied to its vineyards while continuing to refine its style for modern drinkers.
