      Coal River Valley Pinot Noir with poise and quiet power. Stargazer 2024 Pinot Noir comes from Samantha Connew’s Tea Tree vineyards, a site she has steadily nurtured since taking it over in 2016. The vineyard mix of older Wadenswil vines and newer plantings of Abel, MV6, and Dijon clones provides both depth and lift, giving this wine its layered character.

      Connew’s winemaking is precise yet restrained: 25% whole bunch fermentation, gentle handling of the remainder, a cold soak, then ageing in French oak puncheons with 30% new oak for eight months. The result is a Pinot Noir that balances supple fruit with savoury complexity, fine acidity, and subtle structure. It is a clear expression of the Coal River Valley’s elegance, supported by careful craft in the cellar.

      Stargazer is the creation of winemaker and wine judge Samantha Connew, whose career has taken her from New Zealand’s South Island to the heart of Tasmania’s Coal River Valley. After more than two decades in wine, including time as a senior winemaker and show judge, Samantha established Stargazer to express her deep connection to place and her fascination with the land and skies of southern Tasmania.

      Guided by both curiosity and precision, she crafts wines that reflect the balance between science and nature, structure and beauty. Since taking over the vineyard in 2016, Samantha has expanded the plantings, introducing new clones of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, and small parcels of Gamay and other aromatic varieties. Each release is a study in elegance, focus, and quiet intensity.
