Established in 2000, Sons of Eden is intimately involved in all aspects of crafting wines of unquestionable quality, from the vineyard right through to the bottle. Varieties that the Barossa produces to a world standard are hand-picked from 30 unique vineyard sites and handled through Sons of Eden’s minimal intervention small-batch winery. As a result, the wines have a strong sense of individuality. With a combined 50 Barossa vintages amassed between the Sons’, Corey Ryan and Simon Cowham, their focus on crafting world class wines is uncompromising.

To qualify for the Romulus blend the vineyards need to over 50 years of age and managed sustainably. A story that has intrigued the winery for years is the fable of the legendary founders of Ancient Rome, Romulus and Remus. These twins were abandoned at birth and reared by a she-wolf. Romulus murdered his twin in a fit of rage over the naming of Rome, the city which both had built. Legend presents Romulus as the stronger, more powerful of the brothers, while Remus was more refined, focussed and elegant. The winery believe the twins’ characterise the distinctive and unique flavours and attributes of Shiraz from the twin valleys – the Barossa Valley and Eden Valley.

Two of the three vineyards used for this wine are over 80yo, the third over 60yo. Hand-picked, crushed and destemmed, different cap management protocols, but all are matured in new and used French oak for 18 months. It's an elegant wine, the structure and texture good, but the oak is currently too assertive and needs some years to settle down. The glass is three-quarters full. - James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion, Published 30 June 2021, 94 Points
