Barossa Valley depth and modern polish define the Sons of Eden Marschall Shiraz 2024, a richly flavoured expression drawn from multiple vineyard sites across the region. The wine is named in tribute to the legendary Barossa Valley vignerons who established many of the old vineyards that continue to shape the district’s identity. It also honours David Marschall, whose vineyards in Tanunda and Ebenezer form the backbone of the wine. Fruit for the 2024 release comes from Ebenezer, Tanunda, Gomersal, Light Pass and Trial Hill, with vine ages ranging from 26 to 56 years. The sandy soils of Tanunda contribute a more aromatic Shiraz character, while the iron-rich soils of Ebenezer bring a denser fruit core and firmer structure.

Winemaking combined several fermentation approaches, all involving extended skin contact of 15 to 20 days. A cold-soak period of up to five days preceded the natural warming that initiated fermentation. After fermentation, the wine was pressed into a combination of new and seasoned oak hogsheads for malolactic fermentation and maturation. It spent 14 months in barrel with minimal intervention before being naturally clarified and bottled without filtration. In the glass, it is dense garnet, showing a complex and vibrant combination of red liquorice and spiced plum. The palate is rich, rounded and intensely flavoured, with seamless velvety tannins carrying the finish. Delicious on release, it also possesses the structure to mature confidently, with the producer identifying 2031 as the optimum cellaring year.

      Sons of Eden

Established in 2000, Sons of Eden is a boutique Barossa producer founded by winemaker Corey Ryan and viticulturist Simon Cowham. The name reflects the partners’ shared connection to Eden Valley, where both developed and refined their respective skills in the vineyard and winery. Together, Ryan and Cowham have accumulated more than 50 Barossa vintages, giving them extensive knowledge of the Barossa Valley, Eden Valley and their varied subregions. Ryan is a trained oenologist whose experience includes working with Villa Maria, McWilliam’s and renowned Eden Valley producer Henschke, while Cowham brings expertise in viticulture, vine propagation, vineyard management and winemaking. The pair remain closely involved throughout production, overseeing the journey from vineyard selection through to the finished bottle. Sons of Eden sources grapes from approximately 30 distinctive vineyard sites and crafts its wines in a small-batch winery, allowing each wine to retain a strong sense of regional and varietal identity.
