An icon of the Barossa captured in magnum. Rockford Basket Press Shiraz 2012 represents the pinnacle of traditional Barossa winemaking, crafted from dry-grown vines between 60 and 140 years of age. Each site brings a different thread of the valley’s soils, elevations and climates, woven together into a wine of rare depth and longevity.
Robert O’Callaghan founded Rockford in the early 1980s with a vision rooted in history rather than fashion. From hand picking to open fermenters and the use of a 19th-century Bagshaw crusher, every stage honours the methods that built the Barossa’s reputation. Basket pressing and maturation in seasoned French and American oak hogsheads, alongside large vats, allow the fruit to breathe and evolve without losing its regional voice.
The 2012 vintage, released in magnum, is considered one of the strongest of the decade. With greater ageing potential due to the larger format, this wine has entered its stride, balancing muscular fruit with developed savoury layers. Classified by Langton’s as “Exceptional”, it stands among Australia’s most important Shiraz bottlings.
