Port Phillip Estate is located on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. Their wines are all produced from domaine grown, handpicked grapes, with the aim to manifest terroir. The cultural operations at Port Phillip Estate vineyard and practices in the winery endeavour to articulate these unique characteristics diligently, respectfully and without artifice.
The Port Phillip Estate Shiraz 2019 vintage is a single vineyard wine produced from 0.53 hectares of estate vineyard. The grapes, including a small amount of whole bunches, was spontaneously ferment with ambient yeast in an open top concrete fermenter for 16 days. This wine was bottled without fining.
It offers an attractive blend of fruitiness and savouriness and it then finishes fresh, clean and satisfying. It lacks some highlights perhaps but its cherry-plum flavours come infused with twiggy spice notes and its balance is spot on.
