Founded by Luigi Einaudi, during his time as Governor of Banca d’Italia and President of Italy after the second world war, it is said he never missed a harvest! His son Roberto succeeded him, but it was Roberto’s daughter Paola, on her return from Milano to Dogliani at the end of the 1980s, who with tenacity, enthusiasm and significant investment, re-launched this historic brand and went about improving wine quality.

The 2018 vintage benefited from a long and rainy winter: temperatures below the average of recent years allowed a slow and gradual vegetative restart of the vine, without spring frosts. Thanks to frequent rainfall and not too high temperatures, flowering and fruit set took place regularly and in optimal climatic conditions, without any thinning.

Obtained from Nebbiolo grapes from Cannubi (Barolo) located at 220 m. above sea level, facing south and south-east and composed of gray-whitish Sant'Agata marls, rich in sand. A high-class wine that expresses the elegance of the territory, of a brilliant garnet red color to which time gives light amber tones, exuberant in the aromas of fruit and spices, of great structure, full and velvety flavor, with a long finish of goudron and spices.

Medium full red with tawny and brick-red tints; the bouquet is quite complex in its savoury dried-herb and polished timber way. The wine is medium-full bodied and has a touch of richness with abundant supple, drying, powdery tannins in good harmony with the rest of the wine's components. Good drive and persistence of palate. A wine of serious concentration. It finishes right out and has a satisfying farewell, a finish that lingers long and reverberates for quite a while. - Huon Hooke, The Real Review, 30 September, 2022, 96 Points
