Product Description:
Pinot with a pulse—floral, spiced and fiercely site-driven.
The 2023 Between Two Mountains Pinot Noir is the sole Pinot release from Place of Changing Winds this vintage—and it’s a striking encapsulation of this high-density, high-altitude vineyard on the southern slopes of Mount Macedon. Crafted from the estate’s best parcels, including fruit usually reserved for Beyond the Forest, it’s a wine that blends precision with perfume, structure with seduction.
Co-fermented with nearly a third whole bunch and matured for 21 months in large Stockinger oak and glass Wineglobes, the wine is textural, complex and unmistakably cool-climate. Vivid dark cherry, sour plum, blood orange and white pepper leap from the glass, layered with high-toned florals, Asian spice and gamey intrigue. Despite its elegance, there’s an undertow of grip and tension that promises serious age-worthiness.
Decant for now, or cellar for a decade. Serve with duck, miso-glazed eggplant or rare venison.
Tasting Notes
NOSE
– Perfumed and savoury
Violet, rose, dark cherry, blood orange and white pepper with notes of game and fennel.
PALATE
– Complex and energetic
Bright yet brooding red fruit, layered spice and taut structure with a textural, mineral core.
FINISH
– Long and sculpted
Fine tannins and lifted acid carry savoury fruit and spice to a persistent, focused close.
Reviews & Accolades
A very good wine. Fine, tight, tense… complex, compelling, with everything woven beautifully together… Stellar. – Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, 95 Points
Beautifully aromatic… elegant, fresh, purposeful… silky, refined fruit underpinned by spice and structure. Really beautiful wine. – Jamie Goode, @drjamiegoode
