Power, purity and polish—Margaret River Chardonnay at its most complete.
The 2021 Pierro VR Chardonnay is a barrel selection of the finest ten barriques from a cooler vintage, delivering an uncommonly poised and linear expression of Margaret River Chardonnay. Handpicked from mature vines planted on high-density, rocky slopes in Wilyabrup, this is Pierro at its peak—layered, textural and immaculately detailed.
Crafted from the revered Gin Gin clone, the fruit was harvested in multiple passes to capture both bright acidity and rich mid-palate depth. Fermented in French oak (100% malolactic), it was matured on lees for 12 months with fortnightly bâtonnage, lending complexity, silkiness and savoury drive. The result is a wine of rare finesse and restraint, with signature Pierro power tucked neatly behind a chiselled core of citrus, white stone fruit, cashew and spice.
The VR Chardonnay is only made in exceptional years, and 2021 is a standout. A wine of nuance and gravitas, it’s drinking beautifully now but built to evolve for the next decade or more.

Tightest Pierro Chardonnay I can recall… Beautifully integrated. Chalky minerality with a focused finish.
Creamy, salty and refined… Seamless. Superstar.
Rich and ripe, voluptuous even… But the acidity says stop. No more, I’ll finish off.
Peach, melon, lime, spice… calm intensity with a flinty finish of impeccable length.
Pierro is a prestigious winery in Margaret River, Western Australia, founded by Dr. Michael Peterkin, whose passion for winemaking is rivaled only by his devotion to the land. Known for his meticulous approach and deep understanding of viticulture, Mike Peterkin has become one of the most respected winemakers in the region. Since its inception in the early 1980s, Pierro has been at the forefront of producing high-quality wines that exemplify the very best of Margaret River.
The winery's commitment to excellence is evident in every step of the process, from high-density vineyard planting to careful hand harvesting. Pierro’s wines are the result of a deep connection to the land and an unwavering focus on quality. The vineyards, located in Willyabrup, feature some of the oldest vines in the region, with an average age of 30 years, producing fruit with great concentration and complexity. At Pierro, winemaking is both an art and a science, rooted in a deep respect for the land. The philosophy behind each vintage is grounded in sustainability, quality, and a commitment to showcasing the true character of the land. Pierro was one of the first wineries to introduce high-density planting in Margaret River, a technique that enhances fruit concentration and flavour intensity.
The winery's meticulous approach extends to every aspect of the process, from pruning and vine management to the careful harvesting of grapes at the optimal time. The emphasis on minimal intervention allows the natural expression of the fruit to come through, creating wines of incredible balance and complexity. Pierro’s wines are a true reflection of the region’s unique climate and soil, offering both elegance and power in every bottle.

Glossy stone fruit and ripe lime glide across a creamy lees-rich palate with fine acidity and a saline, mineral edge.
Finely tuned oak and citrus length frame a finish of clarity and balance. Pierro's signature DNA in full flight.
