Depth, structure and classical Margaret River character define this flagship Cabernet Sauvignon from one of the region’s pioneering estates. The 2021 Pierro VR Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from mature vines planted in the celebrated Willyabrup subregion, where maritime influence and gravelly loam soils create ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon of concentration and balance. “VR,” meaning Vieilles Réserves, signifies the estate’s most select parcels and oldest vineyard material, reserved for wines of exceptional quality and ageing potential. Crafted by Michael Dhillon, the wine reflects a meticulous and low-intervention approach that prioritises vineyard expression, textural refinement and longevity.
The 2021 vintage delivered excellent growing conditions in Margaret River, producing fruit with intense flavour definition, natural acidity and finely structured tannins. In the glass, the wine reveals layered blackcurrant and dark plum fruit intertwined with cedar, graphite, dried herbs and subtle earthy complexity. Extended maturation in high-quality French oak contributes polish and structure while allowing the purity of the fruit to remain central. The palate is concentrated yet composed, balancing richness with freshness and savoury detail. Fine tannins provide shape and persistence without heaviness, carrying the wine through a long and poised finish. There is a distinctly classical feel to the wine, recalling the restraint and elegance of great Left Bank Bordeaux while remaining unmistakably Margaret River in profile. Built for long-term cellaring, the 2021 Pierro VR Cabernet Sauvignon stands as a compelling example of modern Australian Cabernet at a world-class level.

“The 2021 VR Cabernet Sauvignon is composed and powerful, with blackcurrant, cedar, graphite and fine gravelly tannins. It shows intensity and structure while retaining freshness and elegance through the finish.”
“A superb Cabernet from Pierro, tightly wound and structured, with concentrated cassis fruit, tobacco leaf, dark chocolate and cedar notes. The tannin profile is fine and persistent, giving the wine excellent ageing potential.”
Pierro is a prestigious winery in Margaret River, Western Australia, founded by Dr. Michael Peterkin, whose passion for winemaking is rivaled only by his devotion to the land. Known for his meticulous approach and deep understanding of viticulture, Mike Peterkin has become one of the most respected winemakers in the region. Since its inception in the early 1980s, Pierro has been at the forefront of producing high-quality wines that exemplify the very best of Margaret River.
The winery's commitment to excellence is evident in every step of the process, from high-density vineyard planting to careful hand harvesting. Pierro’s wines are the result of a deep connection to the land and an unwavering focus on quality. The vineyards, located in Willyabrup, feature some of the oldest vines in the region, with an average age of 30 years, producing fruit with great concentration and complexity. With a focus on minimal intervention, Pierro allows the unique terroir of Margaret River to shine through in each bottle.
At Pierro, winemaking is both an art and a science, rooted in a deep respect for the land. The philosophy behind each vintage is grounded in sustainability, quality, and a commitment to showcasing the true character of the land. Pierro was one of the first wineries to introduce high-density planting in Margaret River, a technique that enhances fruit concentration and flavour intensity.
The winery's meticulous approach extends to every aspect of the process, from pruning and vine management to the careful harvesting of grapes at the optimal time. The emphasis on minimal intervention allows the natural expression of the fruit to come through, creating wines of incredible balance and complexity.
