Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes 2023 is a finely sculpted and intensely mineral Chardonnay that showcases the elegance and precision of one of Chassagne-Montrachet’s most highly regarded Premier Cru vineyards. Located on the northern side of the appellation near Puligny-Montrachet, Les Chenevottes is known for producing wines of refinement, saline tension and remarkable aromatic lift. Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey’s meticulous vineyard management and restrained élevage preserve the purity and transparency of the site, favouring energy and terroir expression over overt richness or oak influence. Widely regarded as one of Burgundy’s leading white wine producers, Pierre-Yves consistently crafts wines that balance concentration with exceptional detail and freshness. The 2023 vintage delivered ripe fruit balanced by vivid acidity, resulting in a wine of both generosity and crystalline focus.

In the glass, the wine reveals a poised and layered profile built around citrus blossom, orchard fruit and wet stone minerality. The palate is taut yet textural, with carefully judged reduction and subtle oak integration adding complexity without obscuring the vineyard’s character. Notes of lemon peel, ripe pear and white peach unfold alongside hints of crushed limestone, jasmine and delicate spice. There is a remarkable sense of balance throughout, with vibrant acidity carrying the wine across a long and mineral-driven finish. The structure remains elegant and linear despite the wine’s depth and concentration, suggesting excellent ageing potential over the coming decade. Refined and highly expressive, this Premier Cru Chardonnay pairs beautifully with lobster, turbot, scallops or refined seafood dishes with beurre blanc sauces.

Three plots, one which Pierre-Yves purchased in 2002, and two from his father-in-law, Jean-Marc-Morey. Pale colour, steely nose. Very evenly balanced across the palate between the fruit with its greener edge, though still ripe, the tannins and just a little bit of wood to back them up. A wine which grows towards the back of the palate. Drink from 2028-2034. Tasted Oct 2024.

A marvellous wine with a thrilling, lemony tension on the initial attack, but a bit more breadth and depth in time as it opens up. The grapes are purchased from a 0.3ha parcel, but the PYCM team has full control over the grape-growing and picking, so this is crafted in the domaine's racy and elegant style. Cellar this for three to five years at least before opening, and then enjoy over the next 20.

      Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey

Established as one of the young rising stars of Burgundy, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey in 2005 left his family Domaine, Marc Colin, where he gained a solid reputation for his outstanding white wines. Pierre-Yves took control of a share of the family vineyards (Domaine Marc Colin) from 2006 vintage. His first vintages have been made from vineyards and growers that he works closely with buying the wine as must and aging the wines in barrels which he has supplied. If the resulting wines meet his standards the barrels of wine purchased are then matured in his own cold cellar below his house in Chassagne Montrachet.

“This is not just one of the top domaines in the Cote de Beaune in Burgundy, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is now well recognised as one of the greatest winemakers and domaines in the world. Consistently producing benchmark wines in each vintage.”

The Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey estate was born in 2001 from the association of Pierre-Yves Colin (son of Marc) and Caroline Morey (daughter of Jean-Marc). Today they operate 13 hectares in the villages of Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay, Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault. Their production consists of 92% Chardonnay, 5% Pinot Noir and 3% of Aligoté grape variety. Working about 2 hectares from the family heritage, the other plots have come from different acquisitions over the last fifteen years, as well as a few plots in Fermages.
