Product Description:
Depth, finesse and composed structure define the Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Le Clos Saint-Jean Rouge 2024. Produced entirely from Pinot Noir, this limited red Burgundy comes from the historic Premier Cru climat of Clos Saint-Jean in Chassagne-Montrachet. Although the appellation is now widely associated with Chardonnay, Clos Saint-Jean has long been recognised as one of Chassagne-Montrachet’s important red-wine terroirs. The vineyard’s history stretches back centuries, with records connecting the site to the Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Jean d’Autun. Clos Saint-Jean is officially recognised among the Premier Cru climats of Chassagne-Montrachet and may produce both red and white wines. The 2023 vintage marked Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey’s first release from this renowned site, making the 2024 only the second vintage of the cuvée.
The 2024 wine was vinified with approximately 50% whole bunches, bringing aromatic complexity, freshness and additional structural detail. Gentle extraction was employed throughout the domaine’s red-wine production, while no new oak was used, allowing the fruit and vineyard character to remain clearly expressed. The wine presents an amalgam of red and darker fruit, supported by notable density and substance. Its palate combines ample structure with good presence and forward momentum, yet remains refined rather than heavy. Fresh acidity and measured tannins provide definition through the centre of the wine and support its potential for bottle development. The cooler 2024 vintage produced a lighter and more transparent style of Pinot Noir, without evident green or underripe character. Complex, finely built and persistent, this Premier Cru is particularly well suited to roast duck, game birds, pork, mushroom dishes and mature cheeses.
