Papagiannakos Assyrtiko 2024 is a vibrant and precise expression of Greece’s flagship white grape, grown in the historic vineyards of Attica. Benefiting from limestone-rich soils and cooling influences from the nearby sea, the wine captures Assyrtiko’s hallmark acidity and mineral clarity while retaining approachability. The 2024 vintage was crafted with a focus on purity, fermented in stainless steel and kept free from oak to allow the grape and site to speak clearly. On the nose and palate, citrus intensity is balanced by subtle floral tones and a gentle saline edge, creating a wine that feels both refreshing and composed. Lees contact adds a light textural element without softening the wine’s natural drive. The style is clean, linear and food-friendly, designed to complement rather than dominate the table. Papagiannakos’ modern yet restrained approach results in a wine that feels contemporary while remaining true to Assyrtiko’s Mediterranean identity. This is a white wine that delivers immediate enjoyment with enough structure to hold interest beyond the first glass.

      Papagiannakos

The Papagiannakos Winery stands in Mesogaia, at the heart of Attiki’s ancient vineyard. The family has worked these vines for generations, continuing a tradition of cultivation and vinification that traces back to classical antiquity. Since founding the modern winery, Vassilis Papagiannakos has built a reputation for championing indigenous varieties, above all Savatiano, the grape most closely tied to the region’s identity.

The vineyards, averaging 70 years of age, grow in limestone-rich soils under the influence of mild winters, dry summers, and the cooling meltemi winds. These conditions, combined with low yields, produce fruit of exceptional concentration and character. Alongside Savatiano, the estate cultivates Assyrtiko, Malagouzia, Agiorgitiko, and select international varieties, expressing both the resilience of Attiki’s terroir and its evolving potential.
