Product Description:
An elegant expression of Yarra Valley restraint and depth. The 2023 Mount Mary Pinot Noir represents the continuation of a half-century pursuit of balance, texture, and regional clarity. It reflects a benchmark season for the Yarra Valley, where mild conditions and steady ripening allowed the fruit to develop with exceptional precision. The wine opens with lifted aromatics, pure fruit concentration, and the quiet authority that defines Mount Mary’s style.
Drawn from mature estate vines, including blocks first planted in 1971, the fruit was hand-picked, fully destemmed, and fermented with a high proportion of whole berries over 10 to 14 days. Maturation followed for more than 15 months in French oak barriques, around a quarter of which were new, contributing fine structure without overt weight. The result is a Pinot Noir of measured richness and remarkable clarity, offering a detailed interplay of red and dark fruits, spice, and earth.
Every element speaks of site and season: the cool-climate purity of Yarra Valley fruit, the seamless integration of oak, and the gentle firmness of tannins that will unfurl gracefully over time. The 2023 vintage delivers both immediacy and longevity, a poised, layered expression of one of Australia’s most admired Pinot Noirs.

Reviews & Accolades
“Youthful with complex aromas of wild strawberry, boysenberry, potpourri, star anise and Sichuan pepper. Old vines and low yields have produced a supremely textured, layered and flawlessly balanced wine. The tannins are silky and very persistent. Worth both the money and time for those with patience.” — Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion, 98 points
“Red berries, exotic spices and bramble. Oak adds a creamy element. The wine is full spectrum and savoury. Drink 2025–2038.” — James Suckling, 96 points
“Strawberry, blood plum, five-spice, nutmeg, dried roses, a lick of cedar oak. Bright and gently sappy, with a fine-grained emery grip to tannin and excellent length.” — Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, 95+ points
