Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
The Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 vintage is a deep, brick red colour. The nose displays a classic Cabernet combination of blackberries, blueberries, and violets with cedar and tar notes. A higher percentage of Petit Verdot int he mix provides musky, black fruit notes. In the traditional Moss Wood style, the first impression here is one of bright, generous blue and black fruit flavours, sitting over concentrated but balanced tannin.
It’s typical Moss Wood in style, which means powerful and ripe, if perhaps not the most vibrant of wines. Flavour profile runs to rum and raisin chocolate, black fruit, freshly sawn wood, roast beef and olives, submerged floral notes, and mint. Tannin is rich and deep, very savoury, pulls somewhat fresher on the finish with red cherry and a smattering of dried herb. Length is good, grainy tannin trailing. It’s pretty sullen as at now, but sure to unfurl with appropriate bottle age. - Gary Walsh, Wine Front
