Marius Wines End Play 2017

Marius Wines End Play is a red blend but the grapes used are not revealed. A small amount of this mystery red has been produced. 

The Marius Vineyard is located on the south-east side of McLaren Vale. All their fruit is hand picked sequentially over a period of 10-20 days, ensuring all grapes are 'near perfect' when picked. They do not use machinery or heavy tractors and no herbicides or pesticides. 

Thick set thing of old school rendition. A wine for the front bar but quite a bit classier. Stewed but fresh forest berry fruits, strong liquorice character, salt bush, Aussie bush, a lick of mint and breathy clove, and, tobacco to finish. Rich juiciness, tannins gummy and ashy at once. Bold, dark red wine aromas with more smoke, old spice cupboard and greenery amongst that brooding plummy stuff. Honest red. A hearty red. For thick-rim wine glasses and drinking in two gulps before sloshing to RSL pour level and, well, maybe a poker night not an afternoon of bridge. - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, 93 Points
