Louis Roederer Collection 243 NV represents the latest evolution of the house’s iconic non-vintage Champagne program, replacing the long-standing Brut Premier with a more terroir-driven and vintage-focused approach. Collection 243 takes its name from the 243rd blend created by the house since its founding in 1776. Built around the outstanding 2018 harvest, the cuvée is composed of 42% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir and 18% Pinot Meunier, supplemented by reserve wines from Louis Roederer’s perpetual reserve and oak-aged reserve stocks. This innovative blending philosophy allows the house to maintain consistency while showcasing the unique personality of each base vintage. The wine is sourced from Louis Roederer’s estate vineyards across the Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blancs, many of which are farmed organically and biodynamically. Extended cellar ageing of three to four years contributes additional complexity, texture and finesse.
The 2018 base vintage brings generosity, ripeness and concentration, while the reserve wines add freshness, depth and structure. Aromatically, the wine combines ripe orchard fruits, citrus, floral notes and subtle pastry nuances. The palate is layered and harmonious, balancing richness with vibrant acidity and a distinctive saline minerality. Fine, persistent bubbles enhance the wine’s precision and elegance, leading to a long, chalky finish. Equally suited as an aperitif or at the table, Collection 243 pairs beautifully with oysters, shellfish, seafood, poultry and soft cheeses. Presented here in the impressive 6L Methuselah format, it offers exceptional ageing potential and makes a striking centrepiece for celebrations and special occasions.
