Family owned, Leeuwin Estate, one of the five founding wineries of the now famous Margaret River district of Western Australia, is under the direction of two generations who work with a team of highly skilled winemakers to consistently produce wines ranking alongside the world’s finest.
2019 was an excellent vintage in the Margaret River region, once again producing high-quality wines. Winter was met with cold and wet conditions. Whilst rainfall in June and July was lower than average, significant rainfall in August filled dams on the Estate. The mild start to spring delayed flowering by approximately 10 days over much of the vineyard, before the weather improved significantly and warm blue sky days were once again commonplace
Pear, lemon oil, grapefruit, ginger, cinnamon and cedar oak, with a distinctly savoury sort of hazelnut character, along with some vanilla and white flower perfume. It’s tight, powerful, saline and precise, with a firm flintiness to texture, quite chalky, and superb spicy length and an almost umami aftertaste. I’m thinking grapefruits and biscuits, grilled nuts, even citrus zest. And for all its power and oak, it keeps itself racy and refined. It’s a cracking release. - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, 97 Points
