Langmeil Winery has a rich history dating back to 1842, when Christian Auricht established one of the Barossa's first trading villages on the banks of the North Para River and named it Langmeil. Auricht had migrated from Prussia in 1838 seeking religious freedom for his family in the new world. He established a smithy and began tending a mixed farm and in 1843 he planted one acre of Shiraz vines on the estate, which is still producing fruit today. The vineyard is believed to be the oldest surviving Shiraz vineyard in the world and is now the source of Langmeil's icon wine, The Freedom 1843 Shiraz. The winery changed hands several times over the years and in 1996, three local mates collaborated to purchase and restore the property. They revived the old vineyard and named it The Freedom and Langmeil's first harvest from the vineyard was in 1997. Today, Langmeil is family-owned and internationally recognized as one of the Barossa's premium wine producers. The winery attracts visitors from all over the world to its cellar door and the restored village grounds.

Langmeil's commitment to making wines that express and embrace the unique characteristics of the Barossa high country is evident in its custodianship of the historic Eden Valley vineyard, which is home to the Pure Eden Shiraz vineyard and the single vineyard old vine Wattle Brae Riesling and High Road Chardonnay. The Freedom 1843 Shiraz has been lauded by wine critics and was re-classified in the prestigious Langton's Classification VII honour roll in the 'Outstanding' category, which describes "The best of Australian winemaking practices, vineyard provenance and regional voice." The Freedom Cellar, which was originally the Cobbler's shop in the historic trading village, has been restored and is now the ultimate location to sample Langmeil's Old Vine Garden wines as part of an intimately hosted winery and historic vineyard experience.

Pure Eden is a unique wine, sourced from a single vineyard located in Eden Valley, which was originally planted by Charles Angas in the 1890s. The vineyard has changed hands several times over the years, having been owned by the Shiltons from 1911 to 1926, the Meakins from 1926 to 1929, the Roeslers from 1929 to 1961, the Andretzkes from 1961 to 2011, and now the Lindner family. This wine is a tribute to the tireless efforts of these guardians, who have dedicated more than a century to nurturing this special vineyard. The Lindner family of Langmeil Winery, has been an integral part of the Barossa Valley's farming, food, wine, and community culture for six generations. The family's commitment to excellence in all aspects of winemaking is unwavering, and any wine that bears the Langmeil name is a testament to their pursuit of excellence in both wine and community.

The Langmeil Pure Eden Shiraz 2019 is a medium to deep crimson wine with purple hues. The wine's alluring bouquet is characterized by a blend of red and blue fruits, savoury herbs and hints of black olive, cedar, earthiness and white pepper. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with juicy Satsuma plum and raspberry fruits, complemented by velvety tannins that add structure and texture to the wine. The sweet and briary spices balance the juicy fruit, while a subtle cedar note carries through to the finish. The wine has undergone oak treatment, with 46% new and 54% seasoned French oak hogsheads and barriques. It has spent twenty-six months in oak, which has contributed to its complexity and depth. The pairs perfectly with beef cheeks, Osso Buco and Fillet Mignon.

Sourced from 120yo shiraz vines in Flaxman Valley and aged in French oak (49% new) for 24 months. Aromas of red plum, blueberry and boysenberry fruits underscored by hints of spice box, a light cedar nuance, warm earth and roasting meats. Superfine powdery tannins provide gentle support and there is a distinct savoury air to its palate shape, with a toothsome, meaty edge to the fruit profile. A lovely, textural wine. - James Halliday Wine Companion, 96 Points
