Lagavulin 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ml

Lagavulin is said to be one of the oldest distilleries on Islay and is world-renowned for its smoky, peaty whiskies. The definitive Islay malt intensely flavoured, smoky and rich. The windswept Isle of Islay instils a strength of character into everything it produces and it's here, nestled in a small bay that the beloved Lagavulin whisky has been made for over 200 years.

A 10-year-old Lagavulin single malt, originally released as a Travel Retail exclusive, this whisky has been matured in first-fill American oak casks. Aromas of rock salt, crunchy red apples, burnt sugar and savoury peat smoke fill the nose, complemented by notes of roast almonds, spicy chilli flakes and waves of salty smoke throughout the palate. Like Caol Ila, youth is a good thing when it comes to Lagavulin. The style here is closer to the cask strength 12 years old than the standard 16, showing a similar 'mineral' dryness. Powerful aromas of the seashore, kelp, a little iodine, baked citrus, oatmeal, light vanilla sweetness, cured meats and white pepper follow through with the kind of complexity and length you associate with this distillery: Fresh, peppery and unmistakably maritime, finishing with a dash of creamy vanilla before the aftertaste turns austere and minerally with lingering smoke.
