Jim Barry The Armagh Shiraz 2016
The Armagh vineyard was planted in 1968 by Jim Barry and since the first release of the wine in 1985 it has been one of Australia’s most collected and awarded single vineyard wines. An absolute icon of Australian shiraz.
Lavish levels of toasty spicy oak over blackberry, sage, dried mint and oyster shell savoury stuff, some latent floral perfume waiting to escape. It’s deep and full bodied, intense and purple tasting, thick grainy tannin, almost an ironstone sort of quality to them, fresh acidity, and a long tannic grilled meat and fig finish. It needs, or demands, at least a decade of cellaring. - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, 95+ Points
