Product Description:
Jim Barry The Armagh Shiraz 2006 is one of the Clare Valley’s most iconic and powerful expressions of Australian Shiraz, produced from the renowned Armagh vineyard established in 1968. Situated on a north-west facing slope near the township of Clare, the vineyard is celebrated for producing intensely concentrated fruit with remarkable structure and longevity. The 2006 vintage was shaped by warm and dry conditions, resulting in a wine of immense richness, depth and formidable ageing potential. Matured for 17 months in a combination of new American and French oak, the wine reflects the bold yet meticulously balanced house style that has made The Armagh internationally acclaimed.
Profoundly concentrated and deeply layered, the 2006 release displays a commanding presence while retaining remarkable freshness and definition. Aromas of dark cherry, blackberry, graphite, liquorice and black olive unfold alongside savoury notes of iodine, cedar and polished oak. The palate is expansive and densely textured, carrying powerful dark fruit intensity framed by graphite-like tannins and integrated mocha nuances. Despite its richness and elevated alcohol, the wine remains remarkably composed, supported by structural precision and mineral drive. The finish is exceptionally long, savoury and ferruginous, echoing the distinctive Clare Valley terroir that defines The Armagh vineyard. Built for long-term cellaring, this vintage continues to evolve beautifully with time in bottle. It is a monumental Australian Shiraz that stands among the great collectible wines of the country.

Reviews & Accolades
"The 2006 Shiraz The Armagh is a bit of a monster, but in a good way. Big, decadent aromas of chocolate, blackberry and licorice are well matched to caramel-tinged oak. While generously ripe, there is also plenty of classic Clare character, with coal dust and dark earthy tones offsetting its ripe core of flavor and deeply set tannins. A long, strong finish is icing on the cake" — Vinous, 97 points
“Inky crimson-purple; laden with voluptuous, but not jammy or dead, fruit in a blackberry, licorice and prune range, the tannins remarkably soft for a full-bodied wine, oak unobtrusive.” — James Halliday, 96 Points
“Brimming with a wide spectrum of blue and black-fruit aromas, this still has enticing youthfulness. A very rich wine, but you don’t feel the 15.5% alcohol, thanks to the stack of fine tannins Very long and remarkably fresh finish. The same wine under cork closure has more tar and is more massively tannic and chewy at the finish, rating one point lower. Drink or hold. Screw cap.” — James Suckling, 96 Points
“This bottle of 2006 Shiraz The Armagh is sealed under cork. This closure is better for this vintage. I love this. It's big and dense and chocolaty—but it’s right. It leans into its tannic structure under cork and celebrates its purple/black fruit and dry exotic spices. It's a big wine, good. It has 15.5% alcohol and matured for 16 months in 55% French and 45% American oak barriques (225 liters).” — Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate, 95 Points
