Distinct regional character and polished Clare Valley structure define the 2023 Jim Barry Single Vineyard “The Farm” Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from estate vineyards situated in the cooler northern Clare Valley of South Australia. The vineyard, originally purchased by the Barry family in 2007 and planted to Cabernet Sauvignon soon after, lies on clay and loam soils over limestone, conditions that favour slow ripening and aromatic precision.

The 2023 vintage shows the hallmark style of the site, producing fruit with lifted perfume, fine tannins and balanced natural acidity. Careful harvesting and traditional vinification preserve varietal purity, while maturation in French oak adds subtle complexity without dominating the fruit. In the glass, the wine reveals a deep crimson hue and an elegant profile built on dark berries, cassis and gentle spice. The Farm Cabernet is less about power and more about refinement, emphasising structure, harmony and clarity of flavour.

Fine-grained tannins frame the palate, allowing the fruit to remain vibrant while giving the wine excellent ageing potential. The cooler Clare Valley nights retain freshness, lending a composed and savoury character that distinguishes it from warmer-climate Australian Cabernet. Approachable in its youth yet capable of graceful development over the next decade, it stands as a focused expression of Clare Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

      Jim Barry

Jim Barry Wines is a name deeply woven into the fabric of South Australia's Clare Valley, a region renowned for its world-class wines. Established by Jim Barry, the first qualified winemaker in the Clare Valley, the winery’s legacy is one of pioneering spirit, innovation, and a commitment to producing exceptional wines. Jim’s journey began in 1947 when he graduated from Roseworthy Agricultural College, and over the following decades, he played a pivotal role in shaping the Clare Valley into a benchmark region for Riesling and premium Australian wines.

Jim’s early mentorship from Napa Valley’s Robert Mondavi helped solidify the vision for Leeuwin Estate and the Barry family's future in winemaking. Today, Peter Barry, Jim’s son, serves as the managing director, continuing the family’s legacy of producing site-expressive wines with dedication and precision. Now, three generations of the Barry family work alongside a skilled team to produce outstanding wines from the family’s extensive portfolio of vineyards in the Clare Valley and Coonawarra regions. The estate’s commitment to quality, sustainability, and respect for the land ensures that Jim Barry Wines remains at the forefront of Australian winemaking.
