Established in 1975 by Ron and Elva Laughton, Jasper Hill producers some of Australia’s most compelling and sought after wines. Jasper Hill wines are a true testament to the beauty and craftsmanship of winemaking. Located in the heart of Victoria's Heathcote wine region in Australia, Jasper Hill is a family-owned and operated winery that has gained international acclaim for its exceptional wines. Nestled among the undulating hills and ancient Cambrian soils, the vines thrive in this unique microclimate. The cool nights and warm days, combined with the rich soil, create the perfect conditions for growing grapes of exceptional quality and flavour. One of the standout features of Jasper Hill wines is their commitment to organic and biodynamic practices. The vineyards are cultivated using sustainable methods, with a focus on maintaining the health of the soil and ecosystem. This dedication to the environment not only produces exceptional wines but also ensures the longevity and health of the land for future generations. Jasper Hill is renowned for its Rhône-style wines, particularly Shiraz and Grenache. The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, ensuring that only the best fruit is selected for winemaking. The winemaking process is a delicate balance between tradition and innovation, with minimal intervention to allow the grapes to express their unique characteristics.

Jasper Hill's Georgia's Paddock vineyard spans twelve hectares and is located in the heart of Victoria's Heathcote wine region in Australia. It is known for its exceptional Shiraz and Riesling grapes, along with other unique varietals that have been carefully cultivated over the years.  The Shiraz vines at Georgia's Paddock vineyard were planted in 1975/76 and cover twelve hectares of the estate. These vines yield approximately three tonnes per hectare, resulting in a total production of around 20 hL per hectare. The grapes harvested from these vines are of exceptional quality, showcasing the rich flavors and intense aromas that are characteristic of Shiraz from this region. In addition to the Shiraz, the vineyard also boasts three hectares of Riesling. These vines were also planted in 1975/76, and like the Shiraz, they yield approximately three tonnes per hectare, resulting in a production of around 20 hL per hectare. Riesling is known for its vibrant acidity, floral aromas, and citrus flavors, and the grapes from Georgia's Paddock vineyard are no exception. The vineyard has seen its fair share of challenges over the years. In 1987, a devastating bushfire ravaged the vineyard, causing significant damage. However, the resilient winemakers at Jasper Hill didn't let this setback deter them. They replanted the vineyard, adding further small plantings to ensure the continuity and quality of their wines. Beyond Shiraz and Riesling, the vineyard also boasts one hectare each of Semillon, Nebbiolo and Viognier. These varietals were planted at different times, adding further diversity and complexity to the vineyard's offerings. The Semillon vines were planted in 1992, the Nebbiolo vines in 1993 and the Viognier vines in 2001. These low-yielding varietals contribute to the overall richness and depth of the wines produced at Georgia's Paddock.

The Jasper Hill Georgia's Paddock Shiraz 2022 is a classic Georgia's Paddock Shiraz. This wine beautifully combines power and elegance, delivering a truly remarkable drinking experience. On the nose, this Shiraz reveals a well-rounded array of red and black fruits that captivate the senses. The aromas are rich and inviting, with each note perfectly balanced. As you delve deeper, brilliant spice emerges, adding layers of complexity and intrigue. The palate is a true delight, showcasing the wine's exceptional craftsmanship. Soft, subtle tannins gently extend across the whole palate, providing a seamless and velvety texture. The red and black fruits from the nose make a striking appearance, offering a harmonious blend of flavors that dance on the taste buds. What sets Jasper Hill Georgia's Paddock Shiraz 2022 apart is its impeccable balance. Each element of the wine is harmoniously integrated, resulting in a beautifully structured and well-rounded expression. The wine effortlessly displays its power and elegance in equal measure. This Shiraz can be enjoyed now, with its youthful vibrancy and captivating flavors. However, for those who prefer to cellar their wines, it holds the promise of further development and complexity over time. Whether enjoyed immediately or aged, this wine is a true gem.

A pretty and intense nose of blackcurrants, anise and violets. At first, it doesn't give away much, it's very composed and stealthy in its expression. With air, hints of iodine, pepper and bush spices arise. A bomb of flavour explodes on the palate—black olives, violets and sweet spices are framed by powdery tannins. The tannin quality is a stand-out, it's so fine yet long and sleek. This is ripe and full-bodied yet everything is perfectly jigsawed into place, nothing seems forced. In its youth, It's a touch apprehensive to reveal all, but this is a wine meant for aging. Palate staining, formidable stuff. Drink 2023-2035. - Gabrielle Poy, The Real Review, 96 points
