Depth, structure, and quiet authority define the Izway Don Shiraz 2019 1.5L, a Barossa Valley wine shaped by old-vine intensity and a philosophy of thoughtful restraint. Drawn from carefully selected vineyard parcels, the fruit reflects the generosity of the region while maintaining impressive composure and balance. The 2019 growing season delivered steady ripening conditions, allowing flavours to develop fully while preserving the natural acidity that keeps the wine poised rather than heavy. In the glass, it reveals a layered personality; powerful yet controlled, with an underlying freshness that carries its richness effortlessly.
Whole-bunch fermentation introduces aromatic lift and structural finesse, while maturation in predominantly seasoned French oak frames the fruit without overshadowing it. Dark fruit concentration is matched by savoury nuance, giving the wine both immediate presence and long-term promise. There is a sense of architecture here, with fine tannins providing shape and direction toward a persistent finish. Presented in magnum format, the wine gains an additional dimension of ageing capability, evolving slowly and gracefully over time. It is a Shiraz suited to collectors, celebratory tables, or anyone who understands that great Barossa wines reveal their full story with patience. Decanting in its youth will reward the drinker, while extended cellaring will deepen its complexity.

“Izway continues to champion a style that captures Barossa richness while retaining detail, spice and structural integrity. These are wines of concentration without excess, built confidently for the cellar.”
Izway Wines is a family-owned winery that has evolved from humble beginnings into a respected producer in the Barossa Valley. Founded by Chris and Brian Conway after a chance encounter in France in 2002, Izway began with a single barrel of Shiraz sourced from the renowned Ebenezer sub-region. Over the years, the winery has grown steadily and organically, focusing on creating wines that authentically express the character of their environment. In 2015, Izway Wines built a state-of-the-art, off-grid winery in Seppeltsfield, designed with sustainability in mind. Today, alongside Chris's wife Kathryn, who is also the General Manager, Izway continues to craft wines with a deep respect for traditional winemaking methods, such as basket pressing and natural fermentation, ensuring each wine is expressive, distinctive, and true to its Barossa Valley roots.
Izway Wines is committed to producing wines that genuinely reflect the land and growing conditions of each season. With a focus on authenticity and simplicity, the winery follows a minimal-intervention approach to winemaking, allowing the terroir to speak for itself. Located in the sun-soaked Barossa Valley, Izway benefits from access to old vines that thrive in the region’s warm climate. The winery’s philosophy centres on sustainability, with its modern off-grid facility designed to operate in harmony with the environment. Rather than relying on traditional marketing methods such as wine shows or media promotions, Izway prefers to build its brand through personal connections and a shared passion for great wine. Each bottle of Izway wine represents the legacy of a small, family-owned winery dedicated to producing wines of exceptional quality and character, making it a true expression of the Barossa Valley.
Aromas of blackberry, black plum, and boysenberry layered with cracked pepper, star anise, dark chocolate, and subtle dried herb notes. Gentle floral hints emerge with air, adding elegance to its depth.
Full-bodied with concentrated black fruits, olive tapenade, baking spice, and cocoa. Fine-grained tannins provide structure, while balanced acidity keeps the palate focused and energetic.
A persistent, savoury finish marked by spice, earth, and polished tannins, leaving a lasting impression of depth and precision.
