Dr Bill Lumsden, head distiller at Glenmorangie and long-time fan of Amontillado sherry has always adored its nuttier, more savoury flavours. Years ago, he began to imagine a unique, delicious whisky, which would entwine its casks’ distinctive flavours through the Distillery’s gentle, honeyed style. But since such casks are hard to come by, opportunities are few and far between. Eventually, Dr Bill sourced a precious handful of Amontillado casks. Then he filled them with a soft, mellow whisky which had spent eight years in American white oak bourbon barrels. Transferring it into the Amontillado casks, he left it to age for another four years, until it achieved the flavours he had dreamed of.

Finished in this way, the whisky winds sherried hints of cashews, clove, ginger and dried fruit round Glenmorangie’s classic notes of peaches, orange and lemon balsam. Dr Bill hand-selected the finest of those precious casks to be bottled for the Distillery’s Barrel Select Release. He said: “I have always loved the nuttier, spicier tastes of Amontillado – my favourite style of sherry. It’s such a delight to bring its casks’ sherried influences to our whisky’s signature delicate style for this special release." Exclusive to UK and Australia.

    Glenmorangie

Glenmorangie single malt whisky has been produced in the Scottish Highlands since 1843, when farmer William Matheson and his wife Anne followed their dreams and founded the Glenmorangie Distillery. He set himself apart and put history in motion by creating an exceptional single malt at a time when others were focused on blends. The smooth yet complex whisky he created was inspired by the distillery’s peaceful surroundings on the banks of the Dornoch Firth. His legacy continues 175 years later.

The Glenmorangie logo draws inspiration from the ancient Cadboll Stone, a testament to Scotland's Picts, who once inhabited the region. The stone's intricate carvings, which is now housed in the National Museum of Scotland, influenced the Glenmorangie insignia. These patterns pay homage to the Picts, who cultivated barley fields in the area, now used by Glenmorangie for their single malt whiskies.

Glenmorangie has been distilled by a group of local men entrusted with the secrets of the craft. After the distillery’s location in beautiful Tain, Ross-shire - they are known as The Men of Tain. Some have worked there for decades, eventually passing on Glenmorangie’s secrets to their sons who carry on the tradition.

Considered a pioneer in its field, the Scottish Distillery has become famous for combining tradition and innovation to create the most delicious whiskies. To achieve this, Glenmorangie single malt whisky is created by the people of Tain with a unique distillation process that uses the tallest stills in Scotland. Expertly matured in only the finest oak casks, the resulting single malt is testament to the savoir-faire that has been passed down from generation to generation by a team of expert craftsmen and women.
