Giant Steps Tarraford Vineyard Chardonnay 2018

The Giant Steps Tarraford Vineyard Chardonnay 2018 is a blend of five of the key Giant Steps owned/managed vineyards, Sexton, Gruyere Farm, Tarraford, Applejack, Wombat Creek Vineyards, designed for earlier approach-ability without comprising quality. Good winter rains left the ground with a healthy amount of moisture resources. Canopies were large and healthy and the fruit set was extraordinarily successful. Giant Steps did a “green” fruit thin back to one bunch per shoot and the vine/fruit balance was perhaps the best they have seen in years. After a warm January, the flavours and skin ripeness came on very quickly. Even though days were warm, nights were cool. They picked very early to maintain fresh natural acidity and the Chardonnay bunches were turgid and pristine.
