Refined tension and crystalline precision define this compelling Central Otago Chardonnay. The 2024 Felton Road Block 2 Chardonnay comes from the estate’s oldest Chardonnay vines, planted in 1992 on a gently sloping east-facing site of deep schist soils within The Elms Vineyard. The site’s cooler, sheltered position yields fruit of remarkable purity, showing a vibrant interplay of bright acidity and mineral drive. In the glass the wine is elegant and poised, its energy rooted in concentrated citrus and orchard fruit, while stony, earthy notes give it clear site definition. Felton Road’s biodynamic farming and skilful handling in the winery ensure that the wine maintains freshness and clarity, with oak integration that supports rather than overwhelms. The 2024 vintage reflects both finesse and latent power, balanced by steely acidity and a mineral backbone that carries through the finish. This Chardonnay conveys a sense of place and structure that will reward careful pairing or thoughtful cellaring. It is an ideal match for rich seafood, creamy poultry dishes or simply fine company.

“Perfumed and subtle lemon and sliced apple aromas follow through to a medium body with so much finesse, yet it’s structured and lightly chewy. Long finish. Exceptional. Better in two or three years.”

      Felton Road

Felton Road is a benchmark producer from Central Otago, renowned for its commitment to organic and biodynamic practices. Founded in 1991, the winery follows a 100% estate policy, ensuring that all the grapes come from its four vineyard properties, each meticulously managed with sustainability at the forefront. Led by winemaker Blair Walter, viticulturist Gareth King, and proprietor Nigel Greening, Felton Road’s approach to winemaking is rooted in a philosophy of minimal intervention. The winery employs gravity flow, wild yeasts, and avoids fining and filtration, allowing the true character of the fruit and terroir to shine through in every bottle.
