A vivid and expressive interpretation of Montmains captured in magnum format. Domaine Moreau-Naudet’s 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Montmains highlights the site’s generous yet finely etched character, handled with the precision that defines this revered estate. Fruit from organically farmed, mature Chardonnay vines is hand-harvested from deep Kimmeridgian marl, a soil that imparts both structure and nuance. Natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts takes place in stainless steel and seasoned oak, followed by extended maturation on fine lees to enhance texture and aromatic complexity.

Montmains, on Chablis’ left bank, benefits from a sunnier aspect and heavier soils, producing wines of shape and depth. The 2023 vintage reflects this balance between warmth and restraint, showing ripe pear, citrus and pastry tones supported by firm acidity and a subtle saline thread. Bottled in magnum, it will develop greater harmony and refinement over time, underlining the patience and craft behind Moreau-Naudet’s most expressive Premier Cru.

      Trusted by the professionals

The most generously structured premier cru in the Moreau-Naudet portfolio this year, 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Montmains … Jumping from the glass with aromas of pear, pastries and tangerine zest, it’s full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping … While it may feel richest today, it will generously reward patience

      — Kristaps Karklins, The Wine Advocate, 93 pts

The 2023 Chablis Montmains 1er Cru has a fresh, stony bouquet … The palate is very well balanced with a slightly petrolly reduction on the entry. There’s good weight behind that and a potent, spicy finish that lingers in the mouth

      — Neal Martin, Vinous, 89 pts

      Domaine Moreau-Naudet

When Stéphane Moreau took over his family’s Chablis estate in 1993, he quietly reshaped its future. Influenced by Burgundy’s most revered growers—Vincent Dauvissat, Didier Dagueneau, and Clos Rougeard’s Nadi Foucault—he reintroduced time-honoured, pre-industrial methods that brought a new clarity and complexity to the wines. His deep curiosity and instinctive talent positioned Domaine Moreau-Naudet as one of the most exciting names in Chablis, championing an expression of terroir that was tactile, precise, and anything but conventional.

Following Stéphane’s untimely passing in 2016, his wife Virginie Moreau and assistant winemaker Coco chose to carry on the work he’d started. With the support of a tight-knit circle of growers and a clear commitment to the estate’s original philosophy, they have ensured continuity—both in spirit and in quality. Under Virginie’s watch, the domaine hasn’t just survived; it has strengthened its standing, earning a coveted two-star rating in *La Revue du Vin de France*, just behind Raveneau and Dauvissat.
