Domaine Michel Gros Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Clos des Réas 2023 is a distinguished red Burgundy produced from one of Vosne-Romanée’s historic monopole vineyards. The 2.12-hectare Clos des Réas was acquired by Alphonse Gros in 1860 and has remained within the Gros family ever since. Classified as a Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru, it is now vinified and released exclusively by Domaine Michel Gros. The gently sloping vineyard has an easterly to south-easterly orientation and is distinguished by Bajocian marl containing fossilised shell material. Its vines average more than 40 years of age, providing naturally concentrated Pinot Noir fruit with depth and structural definition.
The 2023 vintage presents the refined, perfumed character associated with both the vineyard and the Vosne-Romanée appellation. Aromas of black cherry, blueberry and violet are complemented by darker fruit, subtle exotic spice and discreet oak influence. The palate is medium-bodied and vibrant, combining succulent red berry fruit with finely textured yet youthful tannins. White pepper, allspice and mineral nuances contribute complexity without overwhelming the wine’s elegant fruit profile. Its impressive persistence and firm underlying structure suggest excellent potential for development with careful cellaring.

Domaine Michel Gros has been part of Vosne-Romanée for more than six generations, with the Gros family's roots in the village dating to the 19th century. Established under Michel Gros in 1979 following the division of the family estate, the domaine has become one of the Côte de Nuits' most respected producers. Since 2019, Pierre Gros has led the estate, continuing the family's commitment to crafting wines that reflect the distinctive character of Burgundy's finest vineyard sites.
The philosophy at Domaine Michel Gros is centred on revealing the identity of each vineyard with clarity and restraint. Around 23 hectares of vineyards are managed across celebrated appellations including Vosne-Romanée, Clos de Vougeot, Échezeaux, Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis, with each parcel vinified separately to preserve its individual expression. Winemaking is deliberately measured, with careful fruit handling and thoughtful oak use allowing terroir to take precedence. The resulting wines are known for their purity, balance and ageing potential, offering precise expressions of Burgundy rather than a house style that overshadows their origins.
