Classically styled and quietly powerful, Domaine Matrot Meursault 2023 reflects the long-standing precision and restraint that have defined this respected Meursault estate for generations. Domaine Matrot, based in the heart of Meursault, is known for producing wines that favour balance, mineral clarity and site transparency over excessive richness or oak influence. The 2023 vintage in Burgundy delivered generous fruit with freshness preserved through careful vineyard work and considered harvest timing, resulting in white wines of both charm and energy.
In the glass, this Meursault shows a refined profile built around purity and texture rather than opulence. Orchard fruit and citrus tones are layered with subtle floral nuances and gentle hazelnut complexity, while the palate maintains freshness and tension throughout. The domaine’s restrained élevage allows the character of Meursault’s limestone-rich soils to remain clearly visible, supporting both precision and depth. There is an understated richness to the wine, balanced by vibrant acidity and a mineral backbone that carries through the finish. Elegant rather than heavy, the 2023 vintage captures the domaine’s signature style of finesse and drinkability while retaining the structure for short to medium-term cellaring. It is particularly suited to roast poultry, butter-poached seafood, creamy mushroom dishes or fine soft cheeses.

“Racked, as all the whites were, in early September, and still a fraction cloudy. A very light gunflint but more it is the white fruit to the fore, especially on the palate. Some citrus at the back to maintain freshness, and the fruit keeps kicking on during an extended finish. Leaves a fine aftertaste.”
Domaine Matrot is one of Meursault’s most respected family-owned estates, with roots in Burgundy that trace back to the early twentieth century. Established formally in 1900, the domaine has remained under continuous family ownership for six generations, preserving a strong connection to the traditions and terroirs of the Côte de Beaune. Today the estate is led by sisters Adèle and Elsa Matrot, who continue the legacy established by their father Thierry and previous generations before him. Based in the village of Meursault, the domaine farms vineyards across several important appellations including Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Auxey-Duresses, Monthélie and Blagny. Domaine Matrot has earned a reputation for producing wines of precision, purity and longevity, with a particular focus on expressing vineyard character rather than excessive winemaking influence. The estate is especially admired for its white Burgundies, which combine richness and texture with mineral freshness and structural clarity. Careful vineyard management, sustainable farming practices and restrained cellar work allow the wines to reflect both site and vintage with transparency. Over decades, Domaine Matrot has become recognised internationally as a benchmark traditional producer in Meursault, valued for consistency, elegance and authenticity rather than trends or stylistic excess.
Domaine Matrot’s philosophy is deeply rooted in the belief that great wine begins in the vineyard and should faithfully reflect its place of origin. The estate follows a thoughtful and environmentally conscious approach to viticulture, prioritising sustainable farming and healthy soils to preserve the long-term vitality of its vineyards. Vineyard work is meticulous and largely hands-on, with careful canopy management, controlled yields and close attention to vine balance throughout the growing season. In the cellar, intervention is intentionally restrained, allowing the character of each vineyard parcel and vintage to remain clearly visible in the finished wines. Oak is used with moderation and precision, supporting texture and structure without masking fruit purity or terroir expression. Domaine Matrot seeks balance above all else, aiming for wines that possess concentration and depth while maintaining freshness, tension and drinkability. The domaine’s white wines are crafted to evolve gracefully with age, developing complexity and nuance over time rather than relying on overt richness in youth. Across both red and white wines, the guiding philosophy remains one of transparency, elegance and respect for Burgundy’s unique vineyard heritage.
Aromas of ripe pear, yellow apple and citrus blossom layered with hints of toasted almond, white flowers and subtle wet stone minerality.
Medium-bodied with fine texture and bright acidity, showing orchard fruit, lemon curd and delicate hazelnut notes balanced by chalky tension and restrained oak.
Persistent and clean with lingering citrus freshness, gentle creaminess and a savoury mineral edge.
