Product Description:
Domaine Leflaive Pouilly-Fuissé 2024 is a biodynamically cultivated Chardonnay drawn from the domaine’s holdings surrounding the celebrated Roche de Solutré in the southern Mâconnais. The wine originates from approximately 2.16 hectares of vineyards planted between 1956 and 2011. These parcels occupy clay-limestone soils that are frequently shallow, with vineyard exposures ranging from north to south. This diversity of position and vine age contributes complexity while preserving the mineral character associated with Pouilly-Fuissé. The Chardonnay grapes are harvested entirely by hand, carefully sorted and picked according to parcel-by-parcel ripeness monitoring.
Following harvest, the fruit undergoes a long and gentle pneumatic pressing before the juice is settled for 24 hours and transferred into fermentation vessels. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place in a variable combination of stainless-steel vats, large wooden foudres, concrete tanks and 600-litre barrels. The wine is matured for 10 months on its lees in the fermentation vessels, followed by approximately six additional months in stainless-steel tanks on fine lees. Fining may be employed where necessary, while filtration is kept light to preserve the wine’s natural texture and identity.
The 2024 growing season was marked by exceptionally high rainfall, a cool spring and persistent vineyard pressure from downy mildew. A mild summer and cool, stormy September prolonged ripening, while the final crop was approximately half the size of the abundant 2023 harvest. Despite the difficult conditions, the remaining grapes reached harvest in excellent sanitary condition, supporting freshness, precision and balance in the finished wine. The palate is broad, fleshy and elegant, combining refreshing acidity with a distinct smoky and mineral character. Its concentration and structure suggest considerable potential for development, while its freshness makes it equally appealing alongside seafood, shellfish and delicately prepared fish dishes.
