Domaine Leflaive Mâcon-Verzé ‘La Jobeline’ 2024 is a site-specific Chardonnay from the Mâconnais, introduced as a new addition to the estate’s Mâcon-Verzé collection for the 2024 vintage. The wine originates from the 2.35-hectare La Jobeline lieu-dit, situated on the western side of the Verzé valley with an east-facing exposure. Its steep hillside is defined by clay-limestone soils that become increasingly shallow toward the top of the slope. The Chardonnay vines were planted between 2007 and 2020 and are cultivated according to biodynamic principles. Harvesting is completed by hand, with careful fruit sorting and parcel-by-parcel monitoring used to determine the most appropriate picking date.

Following harvest, the grapes undergo a long and gentle pneumatic pressing before the juice is settled for 24 hours and transferred into fermentation vessels. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place in a variable combination of stainless-steel vats, foudres, concrete tanks and 600-litre barrels. The wine remains on its lees for 10 months in the fermentation vessels, followed by approximately six additional months in stainless steel on fine lees. The 2024 growing season was notably cool and wet, resulting in slow ripening and yields approximately half the size of the abundant 2023 harvest. Despite the challenging conditions, the remaining grapes were harvested in sound condition, allowing the vineyard’s freshness and mineral identity to remain clearly expressed. Aromatically floral and gently reductive, the wine combines white and yellow fruit with crystallised ginger, flinty nuances and a fleshy yet vibrant palate. Its balance of approachable fruit, fresh acidity and precise mineral structure makes this an engaging expression of Mâcon-Verzé and a distinctive addition to the Leflaive portfolio.

      Domaine Leflaive

Domaines Leflaive represents the Mâconnais vineyards of the celebrated Leflaive family, whose winemaking heritage in Burgundy is centred on Domaine Leflaive in Puligny-Montrachet. The estate’s modern history began with Joseph Leflaive, who restored and expanded the family vineyards following the devastation caused by phylloxera and gradually began bottling wine under the family name. Successive generations strengthened the domaine’s international reputation, with Anne-Claude Leflaive becoming one of Burgundy’s most influential advocates of biodynamic viticulture. Following her death in 2015, her nephew and the founder’s great-grandson, Brice de La Morandière, assumed leadership as the fourth generation of the family to guide the estate. The family expanded into the Mâconnais in 2004 with the acquisition of vineyards around Verzé, later enlarging its holdings in the region through further purchases. Wines from these vineyards carry the Domaines Leflaive name, subtly distinguishing the family’s Mâconnais production from its historic Domaine Leflaive wines of Puligny-Montrachet. The Mâconnais vineyards are nevertheless cultivated and vinified by the same teams, applying the expertise, discipline and high standards developed across the family’s renowned Côte de Beaune holdings.
